Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to provide and support technology and information services that enable OHSU to be a national leader in health and science innovation. The work of the Business Intelligence Management Division (BIAA) ensures that the informational assets of the OHSU enterprise are leveraged to enhance financial, clinical, operational, and research decision-making.

This position will be part of a dynamic, energetic, and collaborative team that supports the organization in the use of data and information to further OHSU¿s mission to strive for excellence in education, research and scholarship, clinical practice, and community service. Members of the Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics (BIAA) team work to apply knowledge and best practices to assist end users in leveraging BI Tools (Power BI, Cognos, Tableau, etc.) to analyze enterprise data for informed decision making throughout the organization.

Function/Duties of Position

Application & Workflow Expertise

  • Collaborates with business partners across all OHSU mission areas to understand workflows, clarify information needs, and analyze how BI systems support those processes.
  • Communicates effectively to gather requirements, translate business needs into actionable specifications, and support integration of data across clinical, research, educational, and administrative domains.
  • Serves as an advocate for end users by interpreting feedback, balancing customer needs, and contributing to improvements in BI products and workflows.
  • Demonstrates clear, timely, and professional communication with customers and mentors.
  • Accurately captures business requirements and aligns solutions with organizational priorities and BI standards.
  • Builds strong partnerships with peers and business users, contributing to a collaborative, transparent project environment.

Analysis, Design & Development

  • Performs system and business analysis to support the design of BI solutions within the CANDID environment.
  • Conducts detailed technical analysis to ensure data availability, accuracy, and proper integration within BIAA-supported data warehouses and BI systems.
  • Contributes to solution design and development activities under the mentorship of senior team members.
  • Produces highquality analysis that supports efficient solution design and informed decisionmaking.
  • Ensures BI solutions follow OHSU’s methodology, governance, security, and reporting standards.
  • Demonstrates growing technical proficiency and applies best practices consistently.

Support, Testing & Maintenance

  • Performs data validation and quality assurance by defining test scripts, evaluating data quality, testing application functionality, and validating BI reports.
  • Thoroughly tests functionality and identifies issues early, ensuring BI tools deliver accurate and complete information.
  • Communicates testing outcomes clearly to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reliability of BI data and outputs.
  • Responds promptly and professionally to support requests, demonstrating sound judgment and userfocused problemsolving.
  • Provides BI reporting customer support, including issue resolution, iterative refinement of operationalized products, and responsiveness to enduser needs.
  • Contributes to longterm system stability through consistent maintenance practices and attention to data integrity.

Other Duties

  • Attend classes, seminars and other training forums as appropriate and as directed by supervisor.
  • This position may perform other duties as directed by ITG management.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and one year work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and two years' work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

  • Three years' work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.

Experience

Within the required experience you must have:

  • One year or more of experience as Data Analyst, Data Engineer, or BI Developer (or equivalent classification).
  • One year or more of experience writing SQL to query relational databases.
  • Experience with facilitating requirements gathering sessions and documenting requirements.
  • Experience conducting formalized testing and validation of systems/processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to gather, interpret, and document business requirements.
  • Experience participating in BI initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Knowledge of BI tool fundamentals and core reporting concepts.
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain basic SQL code to support data analysis.
  • Experience creating and executing formal test plans and test scripts.
  • Ability to conduct thorough testing and validation, including documenting results and communicating findings clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills in written, inperson and phone interactions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and facilitate problemsolving.
  • Effective presentation, facilitation, and training skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One or more years' experience working with compensation, HR, or Payroll data.
  • One or more years' experience with Cognos, Oracle, Power BI or other BI tools.

Additional Details

This is a Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, remote role.
