Description
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the modeling, design, and fabrication of semiconductor automated test fixtures and handler kits in support of the Test Engineering Team. This role also provides ongoing sustaining engineering support to the Manufacturing Organization, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective production solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for semiconductor automated test fixtures and handler kits
- Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and documentation using CAD tools
- Ensure designs meet functional, reliability, manufacturability, and cost requirements
- Collaborate with Test Engineers to translate electrical and test requirements into mechanical solutions
- Oversee fabrication, assembly, and validation of prototypes and production hardware
- Work with internal shops and external vendors to source materials and components
- Support fixture bring-up, debug, and qualification activities
- Provide ongoing support for released designs in manufacturing
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues impacting yield, performance, or throughput
- Implement design improvements, ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), and cost reduction initiatives
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for field and production issues
- Partner with Test Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams
- Communicate design intent, requirements, and changes effectively across stakeholders
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design (semiconductor automated equipment preferred)
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or similar)
- Experience designing precision mechanical assemblies and fixtures
- Familiarity with semiconductor test equipment, handlers, or similar automation systems
- Knowledge of materials, tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturing processes (CNC, sheet metal, 3D printing, etc.)
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Hands-on approach with a willingness to work in lab and manufacturing settings
- Experience with thermal management and high-precision alignment systems
- Exposure to high-volume manufacturing environments
- Understanding of cost optimization strategies
