About This Position

Substation Engineer III

We are seeking an experienced Engineer III Physical Substation to support the structural and physical design of electrical substations. This role is focused on the planning, engineering, and structural development of substations not field operations or substation equipment operation.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience in physical substation design, including structural layouts, foundations, steel structures, and overall yard development.
Responsibilities
  • Engineering and technical expertise in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex substation design issues
  • Planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of assigned engineering work activities
  • Preparation of thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
  • Structural and physical design development for substation projects
  • Evaluation of design alternatives and development of sound engineering recommendations
  • Clear presentation of technical findings and recommendations
  • Continuous improvement of engineering knowledge, technical skills, and professional performance
  • Accurate record keeping and documentation management
  • Effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
Requirements
  • 48 years of experience as a practicing engineer in physical substation design OR state registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Direct experience in physical substation structural design (planning and building the structural side of substations)
  • PE license preferred or actively pursuing PE within 612 months
  • Strong understanding of engineering theories and principles
  • Proficiency in researching design issues, evaluating alternatives, and making sound recommendations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
