Data Governance Lead

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Data Governance Lead in United States.
In this pivotal role, you will lead the enterprise-wide shift toward managing data as a strategic product, defining clear ownership, scalable governance frameworks, and actionable processes. You will design and implement domain-based governance models, enabling trusted, compliant, and reusable data products while reducing dependency on ad-hoc, people-driven processes. Partnering with business, analytics, and technology teams, you will establish roles, decision rights, forums, and metrics to make governance sustainable and measurable. This position blends strategic leadership with hands-on implementation, supporting data quality, stewardship, and operational excellence. You will also help embed data product thinking across the organization, ensuring that governance delivers tangible business value and drives adoption. The role requires collaboration, influence, and a forward-looking mindset to enable a modern, scalable data governance practice.
Accountabilities:
  • Define enterprise data domains, boundaries, and ownership, establishing domain-level governance roles such as Data Product Owners, Stewards, and Technical Custodians.
  • Develop and operationalize the Data Product Model, including lifecycle management, metadata standards, quality rules, and security/privacy requirements.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive governance operating model, including policies, foundational processes, forums, metrics, and dashboards to track effectiveness.
  • Drive adoption of governance practices across business and technology teams, embedding product thinking, SLAs, documentation, and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead data stewardship initiatives, mediate escalated data quality or ownership issues, and prioritize remediation in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report governance performance and maturity to senior leadership, identifying opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Build, mentor, and develop governance talent across centralized and federated models.

Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in data science, computer science, information systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Experience with data cataloging, lineage, and data quality management tools and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Experience designing and operationalizing scalable governance models, ideally with domain-oriented or federated approaches.
  • Familiarity with large-scale, complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary ranging from $135,000 to $165,000 annually, based on experience and location.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage.
  • Retirement plan options and long-term incentive programs.
  • Flexible and digitally connected work environment with unlimited paid time off.
  • Career growth opportunities in a collaborative and high-impact setting.
  • Meaningful work on cutting-edge data and AI initiatives across diverse industries.
