Overview
In this role as a Noise, Shock & Vibration (NSV) Engineer, you will be working with the team providing engineering support operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS). This group is responsible for the Lead Yard Services and DDGX Engineering (used to complete some of the most complex warships built in the world). Key Responsibilities Safety:Champion and enforce BIW safety policies and procedures, including “Design for Safety”.Promote a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability across the team.Ensure safe workplace conditions and compliance with government and company safety standards. Continuous Improvement:Champion BOS principles and productivity enhancements.Identify and eliminate non-value-added activities; lead implementation of process improvements.Leverage A3 problem-solving and other structured improvement tools.Contribute to the Operational Performance Improvement Plan (OPIP). Operational SupportConduct Acoustic and Vibration testing for structure-borne noise compliance.Review and approve airborne, structure-borne, and vibration pre-installation noise test procedures and reportsReview pre-installation noise test reports and work with vendors to meet specified criteria.Determine necessary acoustic treatment for compartments to meet shipboard airborne noise requirements.Determine necessary acoustic treatment for HVAC ducting to meet compartment noise requirements.Calculate free hose lengths for flexible connections to resiliently mounted equipment.Calculate shock excursion envelopes for resilient and shock mounted equipment.Travel to vendor facilities to witness pre-installation noise and vibration testing.Perform airborne and HVAC noise calculations/predictions for shipboard compartments.Support maintenance of EVMS (Earned Value Management System) for scheduled work.Team Collaboration and Communication:Report progress and status of assigned work at Departmental White Boards, as required.Participate in employee performance evaluation process.Support completing Plan of the Week (POW) work items.Work closely with designers to ensure necessary acoustic treatments are incorporated into the detailed design.Work closely with production to ensure acoustic treatments are properly applied.Provide acoustic training to designers and production personnel. Support Team in Following Topics:Analyze requirements and provide guidance to design for compliance in alignment with associated processes.Analyze ship and equipment Purchase Specification requirements.Manage projects, identify and resolve issues surrounding tasks.Write reports and correspondence.Travel to suppliers, customers, or other worksites.Participate in or lead technical interchanges on issues with customers such as U. S. Navy (NAVSEA and Supervisor of Shipbuilding), Suppliers, Production workers and supervisors.
Responsibilities
BS Degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering required.Engineer III: 3+ years' experience required.
Qualifications
Engineer III: 3+ years' experience required. Knowledge of shipboard acoustics and vibration required.2 years technical experience in shipbuilding and marine design/engineering preferred.Experience with noise and vibration test instrumentation required.Demonstrated knowledge and effectiveness with shipboard noise prediction software.Willingness to work onboard ship, pier-side or at sea, possibly in confined spaces, as well as in an office environment.Aptitude for problem solving.Strong oral and written communication skills required.Demonstrated knowledge and effectiveness with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Tools.
