Unit Clerk

Position Summary
- The Unit Clerk is responsible for maintaining an organized work environment, coordinates incoming telephone messages, makes outgoing calls as needed, assists patients, orders tests and procedures, maintains the posting book, obtains old charts and previous test results, develops patient charts,maintains an organized work environment and facilitates communication between staff, patients, families and/or visitors. The Unit Clerk maintains open communication and is available to component organizations and practitioner sites for consultation.
Education
- High School Diploma - Preferred
Experience
- 1 Year Unit Clerk experience - Preferred
- Minimum of six months of hospital experience preferred.
License & Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
Core Job Functions
- Assigned cleaning and stocking is performed by the end of the shift. Work areas maintained in a clean, neat organized fashion. Supplies are used in a cost effective manner by minimizing waste and charging appropriate supplies to patient.
- Provides information to internal and external customers. Gives accurate directions to other patient care areas.
- Communicates with internal and external customers in a professional, timely manner. Accurately transcribe orders and enters departmental charges day of procedure.
- Utilize interpersonal and therapeutic communication skills when interacting with patients, families, and members of the Provider and RN. Communicates relevant, accurate, and complete information.
- Assists LPN, RN, MD with clerical request.
- Serves as primary payroll preparer for assigned areas. Assists with other areas when necessary.
