Qualifications
RS&H is seeking a dynamic and experienced Transportation Engineer to join our Illinois Infrastructure Practice. This is a high-impact opportunity to lead transportation projects across the state in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), while shaping the future of mobility. This ownership model fosters a culture of accountability, innovation, and long-term commitment, where your voice matters and your contributions directly impact our collective growth.You’ll also benefit from:A collaborative, mission-driven culture that values integrity, creativity, and technical excellence.Opportunities to work alongside IDOT and other public-sector leaders on high-profile, transformative infrastructure projects.Career growth through mentorship, leadership development, and technical trainingA commitment to sustainability, equity, and community impactKey Responsibilities:Lead and manage the design of complex roadway and multimodal transportation projects, including geometric design, drainage, traffic control, and construction staging.Serve as a technical liaison with IDOT, local agencies, stakeholders, and the public to ensure compliance with state and federal standards.Oversee project delivery from concept through construction, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality.Mentor junior staff and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.Support business development through proposal writing, client engagement, and strategic planning.Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.Active Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license.Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in transportation engineering, with a strong portfolio of IDOT or Illinois Tollway projects.Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and other design software.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with alternative delivery methods (CMGC, DB, PDB).Familiarity with IDOT’s Bureau of Design and Environment (BDE) Manual and Phase I/II documentation.Previous involvement in stakeholder engagement or public meetings.Soft Skills & Cultural Fit:Exceptional communication skills—able to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to navigate complex project challenges.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to guide teams and build client trust.Strategic thinker with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.Passion for public service, innovation, and infrastructure that makes a difference.
