About Bremen Hospital
Community Hospital of Bremen is a 24-bed critical access hospital serving Bremen, Indiana, and the surrounding communities in Marshall and St. Joseph counties. As part of Beacon Health System, patients have access to providers, resources and services from across the entire health system. The hospital provides the community with: Emergency Department; diagnostic imaging and lab; radiology, including MRI, CT and ultrasound; general surgery; obstetrics; sleep lab; mammography; physical and occupational therapy; occupational health; swing bed services; and infusion therapy.
What You’ll Do
As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), you will perform occupational therapy treatments to restore function, prevent disability, and maximize potential and quality of life following disease, injury, or surgery. You will provide treatments based on a plan of care established by an Occupational Therapist while also serving as a resource to staff, rehabilitation teams, and interns.
Certified OTA Job Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
- Collaborate with supervising Occupational Therapists and other disciplines to effectively manage patients.
- Utilize equipment and a variety of treatment techniques to optimize outcomes.
- Instruct patients and families in occupational activities and provide appropriate resources.
- Document all care accurately and appropriately.
Department Operations
- Meet productivity expectations for assigned areas.
- Demonstrate initiative and flexibility in managing caseloads.
- Participate in departmental meetings, projects, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, CPR, mandatory in-services, and regulatory guidelines.
Documentation
- Complete notes, discharge summaries, and patient assessments within department policy timelines.
- Ensure documentation supports billing charges and payor requirements.
- Sign/cosign documentation appropriately per practice act and policy.
Professional Development
- Maintain membership in professional organizations and participate in continuing education.
- Present in-services following continuing education to enhance staff knowledge and improve outcomes.
- Serve as a clinical resource for rehabilitation therapy across the organization and community.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in department meetings and mandatory education.
- Maintain licensure/certification in good standing.
- Follow infection control, safety, and compliance standards.
- Be available for overtime or additional shifts as required.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Certification: Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license in Indiana
Skills
- Ability to function independently with strong judgment and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with modalities and equipment for occupational therapy treatment.
- Current BLS (CPR) certification required.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases.
Physical Demands
- Ability to walk/stand for prolonged periods.
- Push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 lbs.
- Safely position/lift patients (max 35 lbs unassisted; over 35 lbs requires assistance).
- Provide CPR and maintain balance/strength to ensure patient safety.
