What You’ll Do

As an Occupational Therapist, you will evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and provide therapy interventions to restore function, prevent disability, and improve quality of life following disease, injury, or surgery.

Occupational Therapist Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and assess patients to determine therapy needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment programs and establish appropriate goals.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on treatment goals, methods, and potential outcomes.
  • Provide treatments using appropriate procedures, equipment, and techniques within the scope of occupational therapy.
  • Reevaluate patients, monitor progress, and recommend disposition or next steps.
  • Instruct patients and families in home programs, adaptive strategies, and injury prevention.
  • Document evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and reassessments in the medical record.
  • Communicate effectively with referral sources and healthcare professionals.
  • Supervise and direct COTAs, assistants, aides, volunteers, and interns to ensure quality care and adherence to department standards.
  • Participate in departmental activities including staff meetings, rehab team discussions, and orthopedic conferences.
  • Assist with departmental maintenance and supplies.
  • Complete other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

What You Bring

You bring strong clinical skills, compassionate care, and the ability to help patients achieve independence and improved quality of life.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • License: Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in Indiana, or demonstrated eligibility.
  • Certification: Current BLS certification required.
  • Skills: Proficiency in evaluation tools, modalities, exercise equipment, ADL aides, and splinting/orthotic materials. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Working Conditions

  • Patient care environment requiring physical exertion and frequent changes in job demands.
  • Possible exposure to biohazards and environmental risks common in healthcare settings.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods.
  • Push wheelchairs/carts and lift or transfer patients and supplies.
  • Provide CPR and perform other patient care activities requiring manual dexterity, stamina, and visual acuity.
