ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: Family-owned and operated since 1939, Koopman Lumber & Hardware boasts 13 locations across Massachusetts. These include three full-line stores in Whitinsville, Uxbridge, and North Grafton, offering lumber, hardware, paint, and lawn and garden supplies. Additional locations include a lumber, hardware, paint, and design center in Sharon, a full-service paint store in Milford, and lumber yards with kitchen design centers in Hudson, Andover, Fairhaven, Dennis, Pembroke, and Indian Orchard. We also have distribution centers in Uxbridge and Sutton. Koopman Lumber specializes in building materials and supplies, including lumber, hardware, moldings and millwork, tools, power equipment, windows and doors, engineered lumber, and kitchen products. Our extensive network of outside sales professionals serves most of New England, offering expertise in lumber, millwork, kitchens, and paint.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Retail Sales Associate to join our Paint Department, providing exceptional service, maintaining a well-organized store, and supporting our customers’ needs.

Job Summary:
As a Retail Sales Associate in the Paint Department, you will assist customers with their purchases, mix paint, manage inventory, and ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming store environment. You’ll work collaboratively with the team to drive sales, engage with professional painters, and uphold Koopman Lumber’s commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver outstanding customer service by assisting with product selection, mixing paint, and answering questions about merchandise, pricing, and promotions.

Process payments using the cash register, including charge accounts, gift card sales, and cash transactions.

Perform cash drawer counts at the opening and/or closing of shifts.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe store environment, including displays and inventory areas.

Assist with receiving, checking in, and organizing inbound merchandise shipments.

Keep accurate inventory counts for the department.

Provide customers with information on complementary products to enhance their purchases.

Stay informed about products, their applications, pricing, and new inventory.

Engage with prospective professional painters and collaborate with outside paint sales staff to support retention efforts and customer service.

Assist with occasional deliveries or inventory transfers as needed.

Refer store credit applications and bad checks to the Credit Department.

Promote company events and special offers to customers.

Foster a positive, team-oriented environment by motivating colleagues and maintaining a professional attitude.

Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate cash register (computer) equipment
  • Ability to do math, read orders, follow instructions
  • Ability to communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills
  • Good telephone and email etiquette
  • Good interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand up to 8 hours at a time
  • Ability to reach overhead to grasp materials
  • Ability to sit, climb or balance, lift, twist, and bend, stoop or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis
  • Strength: regularly lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Working both indoors in controlled temperature, and occasionally outdoors in varying elements
