Lecturer of Neuroscience and BehaviorBarnard is a premier liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City and is affiliated with Columbia University. The Department of Neuroscience & Behavior at Barnard College seeks two full-time Lecturers to begin July 1, 2026. During Summer 2026 the Department will move into the newly renovated Roy and Diana Vagelos Science Center.

Job Description:

The Lecturer teaching load at Barnard is six courses per year. Teaching expectations will include core laboratory courses in the Neuroscience & Behavior major, Statistics and/or Research Methods in Neuroscience, and at least one upper-level lecture or seminar designed by the candidate. Responsibilities also include advising undergraduates in the Neuroscience & Behavior major and contributing to departmental and college-level service as appropriate for the candidate’s rank.

We seek candidates whose focus and expertise complement the current faculty https://neuroscience.barnard.edu/people. We remain open to hiring someone whose expertise is at any level of analysis from molecules to circuits to human cognition. We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching will contribute to Barnard’s diverse curriculum and who will actively support students from historically underrepresented groups in science.

The Lecturer position includes health and other benefits, and opportunities for continued scholarly development. Lecturer positions include the opportunity for review and renewal at the third year and promotion at the seventh year of service (to Senior Lecturer).

• Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, or a related discipline at the time of appointment
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching neuroscience at the undergraduate level
• Experience advising and mentoring undergraduates
• Commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds
• Capacity to contribute to departmental service and curricular development

A single PDF file (maximum file size: 30 MB) containing:

  • A cover letter specifying the position, summarizing interest and preparation, and a discussion of the upper levels courses the applicant could teach (existing or new)

  • Statement of teaching and mentorship outlining courses taught, mentorship experience, and teaching philosophy

Only semi-finalists will be asked to identify at least three references. Referees will receive an email notification to upload confidential letters of recommendation within one week of receipt of the email.

Salary: $88,000 - $94,000
