JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Nurse Educator provides staff nurse development through education, consultation, facilitation, change and research. The CNE supports the development of the bedside nurse and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence and the delivery of evidence based nursing practice.
This is to occur through the education process of ongoing education needs assessments, annual development of clinical education plans and the implementation of the plans, continuing education availability effective orientation programs and ongoing evaluations of nurse competency, plans and programs.
The CNE is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate at BMH and in assisting to meet the diverse needs of our patients.
Clinical Nurse Educator reports to the VP of Patient Care Services. The CNE and the VPPCS will meet regularly. The VPPCS has final approval of annual orientation and education plans based on annual needs assessments and program evaluations.
- Mentoring and teaching current and future nursing students.
- Designing, delivering, and evaluating educational curricula.
- Writing and reviewing educational material, like textbooks.
- Documenting the students' progress and advising them on their educational journey.
- Researching and remaining up-to-date on clinical practices.
- Developing patient care plans and assisting patients with their clinical needs.
- Educating the technical and patient care staff in using new technology.
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:
The Medical/Surgical Units are located in two separate areas. The predominantly medical floor has 18-20 beds, three beds being ICU level (Intermediate Care) beds and the surgical floor consisting of 7-8 inpatient beds and a 4 bed/lounger outpatient short stay area. Each floor has a diverse population of medical/surgical/ICU patients.
The Emergency Department sees approximately 13,000 patients annually.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Master’s degree in nursing.
Experience:
- Minimum five years current medical-surgical and/or critical care experience; demonstrated communication, teaching and mentoring skills; demonstrated expert practice skills; working knowledge of CMS, CoP and evidence-based practices.
- Previous hospital based clinical education experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Vermont.

Compensation Disclosure in Accordance with Vermont Act 155
In compliance with Vermont Act 155, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital provides the compensation range for this position in good faith. The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Final compensation will be determined during the hiring process.
