Project Manager Lead Industrial Fabrication and Mechanical Field Operations Job Overview

Salary/Pay Rate: $75,000-$80,000+ depending on experience plus Annual Profit-Sharing.
Location: Columbus, OH (Local travel to jobsites required).
Job/Employment Type: Full Time.

You will serve as a hands-on leader managing industrial projects from initial estimation through shop fabrication and final field installation. This role is designed for a technically grounded professional who prefers active site involvement and shop coordination over a corporate, spreadsheet-only environment. You will have the autonomy to own projects "cradle to grave" while ensuring high-quality mechanical and fabrication solutions for our industrial partners.
How You Will Make an ImpactDirect the full project lifecycle by managing customer accounts from initial kickoff through final field completion.
Estimate complex industrial jobs and review technical drawings in collaboration with CAD and drafting teams.
Coordinate daily shop workflows and field execution to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
Oversee field installation progress by working closely with foremen to resolve real-time technical obstacles.
Manage project scope through the accurate execution of change orders and regular site-walk evaluations.
Facilitate clear communication between internal fabrication teams and external clients to maintain project transparency.
Analyze project profitability and resource allocation to minimize risk and ensure consistent delivery standards.
Proven background in industrial construction, mechanical contracting, or fabrication environments.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, project drawings, and technical specifications.
Experience in project scoping, job estimation, and managing professional customer relationships.
Strong practical knowledge of welding, piping, or industrial plant maintenance.
Willingness to maintain a 50/50 split between office coordination and active field/site oversight.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across different stages of production.
Prior experience as a Field Foreman or Lead Mechanic ready to transition into project management.
Familiarity with project management software such as Bluebeam, Procore, or similar scheduling tools.
Technical background in dust collection systems, specialized piping, or heavy industrial fabrication.
Experience implementing process improvements within a shop or field environment.
