Job Description

Tear-Down Operator

Reporting To

Operations Manager

Salary

$19 – $26 per hour (DOE)

Role Objective

We are seeking a detail-oriented Tear-Down Operator to perform the disassembly, cleaning, sorting, and preparation of components for inspection, refurbishment, or further processing. This role is essential to maintaining throughput, traceability, and part integrity at the front end of our production and remanufacturing workflow.

Key Responsibilities

· Perform teardown and disassembly of assemblies and components per work instructions and job routers.

· Tag, label, and document all components during teardown to maintain full traceability and chain of custody.

· Clean parts using approved solvents, degreasers, and equipment, adhering to safety and environmental procedures.

· Sort, organize, and stage components for inspection, rework, or additional processing.

· Identify and segregate damaged, worn, or non-conforming components; flag findings to supervision.

· Maintain accurate teardown records including photographs, measurements, and written notes where required.

· Handle tools, fasteners, fixtures, and small precision parts with care to prevent loss or damage.

· Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and shop-appropriate attire.

· Support the production team with part movement, kitting, and staging as needed.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and 5S-compliant work area.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED.

· 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, disassembly, or related hands-on role.

· Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use common hand tools (wrenches, drivers, torque tools).

· Ability to read and follow written work instructions, basic blueprints, and bill of materials.

· Good attention to detail and ability to maintain focus on repetitive, precise tasks.

· Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

· Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation.

· Strong sense of ownership, reliability, and attendance.

Additional Information

Preferred Skills

· Prior experience in aerospace, automotive, or precision component manufacturing.

· Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.

· Experience using calipers, micrometers, or other basic measuring tools.

· Forklift or pallet jack certification.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to stand for long periods and move between different workstations.

· Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.

· Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, heat, and other manufacturing conditions.
