Job Summary
LWDN is in need of an experienced workers’ compensation Legal Assistant for its Nashville, TN office. We are an established law firm, founded in 1882, with offices in Chattanooga, Memphis, Knoxville and Nashville. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package. Essential Functions:
Responsible for assisting Attorneys by performing clerical and administrative duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
This position is eligible to be on a hybrid work schedule after on-site training is completed.
- Ability to follow LWDN Firm policies and procedures
- Experience working in Workers’ Compensation, preferred
- Transcription of legal documents and correspondence
- Organize and maintenance of paper and electronic filing
- Prepares correspondence and legal papers
- Creates spreadsheets and prepares presentations
- Maintains calendars and tracks deadlines
- Updates and indexes pleadings and discovery binders
- Drafts Medical/Employment/IRS/ SSA authorization forms, releases and orders.
- Proofreading of legal documents
- Enters time for billing purposes
- Bates stamping of documents
- Assist with the process of opening and closing file activities
- Responsible for filing, organizing and indexing of legal matter
- Scanning, copying, faxing and e-mailing of legal documents
- Schedules court reporters, depositions, hearings and other meetings
- Makes travel arrangements
- Processing of third party and vendor invoices
- Copying of data to mediums such as CD or flash drive
- Files documents with Court or searching Court files
- Maintains confidentiality as necessary
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Familiarity with legal documents and terminology
- Working knowledge of computers, electronic data processing and proficient in Microsoft applications including Word and Excel along with willingness to learn applicable Software as needed.
- Ability to type minimum of 50 wpm with at least 92% accuracy along with keen listening skills required to comprehend voice dictation files.
- Working knowledge of standard office equipment such as copiers, scanners and fax machines
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Displays courtesy, professionalism, discretion and sound judgment
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with Members, Attorneys, Staff, Clients and third party vendors
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work on different projects and one time
Education and Experience
Legal administrative experience preferred. Associates Degree with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, legal procedure and terminology. Two years legal experience or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
