Job Description
This position supports the credit administration function and assists in gathering and analyzing business and financial records and other information necessary to assess customer credit and risks in connection with primarily commercial loans. The Credit Analyst I assists in making determinations and recommendations on commercial credit decisions, credit risk, and loan requests through evaluation of financial statements, industry ratios, market risk, collateral, sensitivity analyses, and projections. The analyst works closely with loan officers, lending assistants, and other bank employees under the direction of the Director of Credit Administration and Senior Credit Analyst.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Analyzes the financial data of new and existing borrowers and prepares credit requests and reviews of existing credits.
- Provides general background of clients, transaction summary, projection modeling, loan covenant and condition compliance along with profitability, risk rating, relationship, and industry analyses.
- Assists in determining best loan structure for requests, helps to foresee future opportunities with clients, and provides credit recommendations.
- Assists in monitoring covenant and reporting compliance for assigned relationships, supports the preparation of annual reviews and renewals for existing borrowers, and communicates exceptions or deficiencies to the appropriate lending officer or credit administration staff.
- Works with loan officers, lending assistants, and loan operations staff to support file completeness and timely resolution of documentation requirements.
- Maintains working knowledge of applicable Bank lending policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Provides strong and clear communication to co-workers, loan officers, and third parties.
- Adheres to all applicable internal policies and procedures and protects the confidentiality of borrower information.
- Follows BSA policies and procedures applicable to job functions.
- Performs additional duties as requested or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Working knowledge of basic accounting or financial principles; familiarity with credit/lending concepts is a plus.
- Demonstrates analytical, decision-making, and effective problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrates effective business writing along with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound judgments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field required; candidates currently enrolled in a qualifying program will also be considered.
- One or more years of experience in banking or a related financial services environment desired; candidates with a relevant degree and limited prior experience, including those with experience in other roles in banking or related industries, will be considered.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
