The Coordinator of Communications is a member of the Marketing and Communications (MarCom) Team, and functions as the primary writer for the agency. This includes writing, editing and proofreading your own work and that of other staff, including the president. This position writes articles for the agency’s newsletter, HOME, direct mail appeals, its annual report, as well as agency brochures and flyers. This position coordinates media relations, such as placing stories in local newspapers or securing interviews with PCHAS staff, donors, volunteers, and clients.* This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and works closely with the Coordinator of Digital Content and other members of the Development Department.
Essential Job Functions:
· Writes direct mail appeals that will be printed and mailed via USPS
· Writes an annual speech for the president to deliver at each year’s fundraising luncheons
· Participates in the development of communication plans for the agency
· Develops various methods to raise awareness of PCHAS including feature stories, editorials, advertising, radio interviews and announcements of new hires
· Coordinates interviews with PCHAS staff, donors, volunteers and clients*
· Collaborates with the development staff and program staff on content for the agency’s newsletter, direct mail campaigns, other print materials
· As time allows, cultivates relationships with media (print/radio/television) in all relevant markets
· Editing and proofreading one’s own work and others
· Assists with agency’s annual luncheons in Texas and attends other events as necessary
· Participates in bi-weekly meetings of the marketing and communications team
· Stays informed of best practices in communications and marketing
· Performs other duties as assigned
* Interviews with donors, volunteers, and clients should be cleared with the appropriate staff member and follow agency guidelines on privacy.

Working Conditions:
Works in a typical office setting. Some travel required to maintain strong communication with staff outside of Austin, TX. Additional overnight travel to perform duties such as visits to program locations and development planning retreats. This position is a full-time, exempt position, requiring a commitment beyond a 40-hour week when required.
Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 35 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
Requirements:2 to 5 years of non-profit experience related to communications or marketing.
Other Requirements:
Must hold a valid driver’s license, have and maintain a risk-free driving record. Must be willing to undergo initial and periodic child abuse/neglect, criminal history, sexual offender, and child care/elder care disqualification list screenings. As requested, must submit fingerprints for review by the state of your employment and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Must undergo a pre-employment drug screen and a pre-employment physical with the results showing no evidence of communicable disease.
