We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, AI Foundations in North America.In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the core systems that enable advanced AI capabilities across a browser platform. You will focus on integrating large language model outputs into reliable, production-quality features while creating infrastructure and tools that support rapid iteration and experimentation. Partnering closely with ML, Product, and Engineering teams, you will lead initiatives that improve system reliability, observability, and overall engineering quality. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex technical challenges, mentor other engineers, and contribute directly to shaping the AI-driven experiences used by end-users. Partnering closely with ML, Product, and Engineering teams, you will lead initiatives that improve system reliability, observability, and overall engineering quality. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex technical challenges, mentor other engineers, and contribute directly to shaping the AI-driven experiences used by end-users. You will help ensure AI features are accurate, trustworthy, and performant, while developing reusable tooling for evaluation, prompt engineering, and diagnostics.Accountabilities:
- Own and evolve the AI Foundations systems that power AI features, from architecture to production deployment
- Build and maintain infrastructure for evaluations, prompt engineering, and diagnostics, enabling teams to measure quality and catch regressions early
- Orchestrate LLM usage across services, standardizing formats, streaming, error handling, and cost management
- Partner with Product and Infrastructure teams to define requirements, SLAs, and APIs for AI features
- Turn real-world usage into evaluable scenarios, creating workflows, documentation, and best practices to support safe and efficient experimentation
- Lead high-impact engineering projects, mentor team members, and drive improvements in reliability, observability, and operational excellence
- 6+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale software systems, with deep expertise in backend or infrastructure engineering
- Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or AI outputs into production systems, with curiosity about model behavior
- Proven ability to design, ship, and operate reliable, maintainable systems in complex codebases
- Strong technical leadership and mentoring skills, elevating team quality through code reviews, guidance, and collaboration
- Pragmatic problem solver, comfortable with ambiguous challenges and rapid iteration in a startup environment
- Ability to work in North American time zones with at least 4 hours overlap with Eastern Time Zone team members
- Competitive base salary ($225,000 $275,000 USD) plus equity
