Preschool Lead Teacher
PRESCHOOL LEAD TEACHER
Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)
2026-2027 school year - Start in August of 2026
7:30 AM-3:30 PM, M-F
Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Lansing is seeking an experienced and energetic GSRP Preschool Lead Teacher to join our team. You will be responsible for encouraging children's intellectual, psychological, and physical growth. The ideal candidate is nurturing, patient, and creative. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
- Have a warm, supportive attitude toward children and families of all cultures
- Elementary Teacher Certification, State of Michigan, with a ZA, ZN or ZS Endorsement
- Or Bachelors degree in Child Development
- PREFERRED BACHELOR'S (OR HIGHER) DEGREE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
- Knowledge of the State of Michigan “at-risk” factors as they relate to GSRP
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check (including fingerprinting) before employment and periodically afterward.
- Verification of negative TB status obtained within one year prior to employment.
- Valid Drivers' License required.
- First aid/CPR certified
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities desired.
- Evidence of successful teaching experience and or proven proficiency in working with GSRP or preschool-age children.
- Evidence of planning a curriculum for students.
- Ability to prioritize; strong organizational skills.
- The preferred applicant is a practicing Catholic and demonstrates enthusiasm for sharing their faith with children through both knowledge and actions.
- Knowledge of MTSS
STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Strong oral and written communication skills, including:
- Express themselves effectively through verbal communication
- Communication and collaboration with the classroom teacher regarding children's behavior and progress are essential
- Ability to read and understand instructions, correspondence, memos, GSRP policies, and handbooks
- Capable of writing reports, letters, and procedures
- Skilled in presenting information effectively in one-on-one or small group settings to students, and staff
REASONING ABILITY: Capability to understand, interpret, and carry out instructions in the following formats:
- Observe and record students' performance, including relevant data to evaluate progress.
- Record observational notes in assessment software to improve instructional strategies
- Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions to guide instruction.
- To understand basic computation across all units of measurement, utilizing whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- To be able to calculate rate, ratio, and percentage; and the ability to develop and interpret bar graphs
- To demonstrate willingness to follow instructions in emergency situations
- To understand the State of Michigan “at-risk” factors as they relate to GSRP
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical requirements show what an employee must do to perform essential duties. Reasonable accommodation can help individuals with disabilities meet these functions. While working, the employee must:
- regularly bend, stand, walk, talk, twist, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for extended periods
- active supervision of students in classrooms, corridors, cafeterias, and playgrounds
- often use their hands to manipulate objects, regularly lift approximately 80 lbs., and push or pull weights up to 100 lbs
- have finger dexterity, can grasp objects, and perform repetitive motions
- visual acuity, including close, distance, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment
- attentively perceive and differentiate sounds at a moderate noise level
- follow written IEPs and support plans, ensuring all IEP requirements are met
- assisting children with personal health care and/or medical needs and grooming, including diapering if applicable

- Adhering to the Great Start Readiness Program Implementation Manual and related documents, as outlined by MDE, is required
- must follow all of IHM's Great Start Readiness Program Teacher Handbook and GSRP's Policies and Procedures
- must be at work with regular, dependable, and punctual attendance a mandatory expectation.
- Will educate three and four-year-olds within a preschool setting
- Will engage with a vulnerable population meeting the program's eligibility criteria.
- Will integrate into the professional team-teaching model employed by GSRP
- Will collaborate with the GSRP Director and engage in identified committees and initiatives
- Will attend and contribute to professional development sessions.
- Will assist in the development and participation of recruitment and outreach initiatives.
- Will be required to conduct home visits, conferences and provide monthly parent nights.
- Will employ a consistent daily routine, ensuring a safe environment for all learners
- Must be able to always maintain confidentiality and a professional attitude
- Shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:
- 7:30 AM-3:30 PM, M-F
- School Year
- Five days per week
- Full-time, non-exempt work schedule with a maximum of 40 hours per week.
- Compensation commensurate with the candidate's education and proven experience.
- grant-funded position (contingent on available funding)
