About This Position
Position Summary
The Customer Quality Engineer is responsible for analyzing and improving the reliability and quality of products, equipment, components, and manufacturing processes. This role applies established engineering methodologies to identify risks, investigate failures, and implement corrective actions that enhance product performance and customer satisfaction. This role ensures that customer feedback, product performance, and complaints are effectively translated into corrective and preventive actions that strengthen product reliability and process capability. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to support reliability objectives and ensure quality standards are met throughout the product lifecycle.
Essential Functions
- Analyze and evaluate the reliability and quality of products, components, equipment, and processes using established engineering tools and methodologies.
- Develop and apply reliability analysis methods and performance measures based on product specifications, tolerances, and operating standards.
- Utilize analytical techniques such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis, and root cause analysis to identify quality and reliability issues.
- Oversee and support testing activities, review test results, and document findings.
- Create and maintain risk-based failure mitigation and corrective action plans.
- Propose improvements to product designs, manufacturing processes, and testing specifications to increase reliability and quality.
- Support customer-related quality concerns by investigating issues, determining root causes, and driving resolution.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare technical reports, analyses, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Customer Point of Contact: Act as the primary contact for customer quality concerns; manage containment, investigation, and closure of complaints with timely communication.
- Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Lead 8D or A3 problem-solving processes; ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented and verified for sustainability.
- Data & Trend Analysis: Monitor and manage customer defect data, warranty claims, and returns to identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities.
- Customer Quality Metrics: Develop, track, manage, and report key metrics such as Customer NCs, PPM, DPPM, RMA turnaround time, and corrective action timeline and effectiveness to milestones.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier quality to resolve systemic issues affecting customer performance.
- Customer Audits & Communication: Support customer audits and technical reviews.
- Continuous Improvement Leadership: Translate customer insights into improvement projects that enhance product design, process capability, and service responsiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality or Engineering discipline or equivalent experience required.
- 2 – 4 years of related experience in quality, reliability, or manufacturing engineering.
- Working knowledge of reliability and quality analysis tools such as FMEA, fault tree analysis, and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with product testing, validation, and quality assurance processes.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with occasional direction and as part of a cross-functional team. Certified Black Belt with strong problem-solving and analytical skills (8D, A3, DMAIC)
- Technical understanding of mechanical/electrical systems and manufacturing processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially with customers
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Minitab
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001
- Continuous improvement orientation

- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, particularly when working on the computer
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, particularly when in the manufacturing facility
- Ability to travel as needed to customer sites
- Ability to bend, kneel and stoop occasionally
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow all safety requirements
- Ability to use instruments related to quality measurements
- Ability to use standard office equipment (copier, fax, telephone, computer, etc.)
