The Junior FOIA Specialist supports FOIA request processing in support of our government client and contributes to enterprise-wide FOIA operations. This position performs initial request reviews, conducts records searches, drafts response materials, and applies FOIA exemptions under supervision. The Junior FOIA Contractor assists senior FOIA staff in maintaining workflow efficiency, ensuring accuracy, and supporting timely completion of FOIA tasks, while following established procedures and quality standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial review of incoming FOIA requests to determine scope and processing requirements.
- Perform records searches across electronic and physical systems to identify responsive materials.
- Draft acknowledgment letters, interim updates, and portions of final responses under supervision.
- Apply FOIA exemptions accurately and consistently while performing redactions.
- Support senior analysts in case processing, tracking actions, and meeting required deadlines.
- Maintain accurate documentation and case notes in FOIA tracking systems.
- Assist with the preparation of reports, metrics, and administrative FOIA documentation.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders to obtain needed information.
- Follow established workflows associated with FOIA functional requirements
Minimum Requirements (Education & Experience):
- US Citizenship required
- Associate degree required.
- Additional FOIA experience may substitute for formal FOIA training or degree requirements.
- One year of successful FOIA request processing within the last 24 months.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database tools.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust (5c) security clearance (financial/credit history and background will be reviewed):
- Not in default on federal student loans
- Demonstrated financial responsibility
- No felony convictions within the past 7 years
- Misdemeanor convictions within the past 7 years may impact eligibility
- No non-medical collections totaling $7,500 or more.
Preferred Requirements (Education & Experience):
- FOIA related training preferred
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Ability to apply FOIA exemptions accurately and consistently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to draft clear, professional responses.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database tools.
- Ability to conduct effective internet and records research to support FOIA search and review activities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively and support senior FOIA staff in completing cases accurately and on time.
