Position SummaryThe Credentialing Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the credentialing and recredentialing team, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant onboarding and maintenance of provider credentials. This role is responsible for staff supervision, workflow optimization, quality assurance, and adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team of credentialing specialists, including training, coaching, and performance management
- Oversee end-to-end provider credentialing and recredentialing processes for physicians, advanced practice providers, and allied health professionals
- Ensure compliance with CMS, NCQA, URAC, state, federal, and payer-specific credentialing requirements
- Review and approve credentialing files for completeness, accuracy, and audit readiness
- Serve as escalation point for complex or high-risk credentialing issues
- Monitor workload distribution, turnaround times, and productivity metrics
- Develop and maintain credentialing policies, procedures, and standard work
- Partner with internal stakeholders (HR, Provider Operations, Compliance, Legal, Payer Enrollment) to streamline provider onboarding
- Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits and accreditation surveys
- Identify process improvement opportunities and implement best practices
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive provider and organizational information
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 3 years of healthcare credentialing experience
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience required
- Strong working knowledge of credentialing regulations and accreditation standards (NCQA, CMS, URAC, Joint Commission, etc.)
- Experience with credentialing software systems (e.g., Verifiable, Cactus, symplr, MD-Staff, CAQH)
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM)
- Experience supporting multi-state or large provider networks
- Process improvement or quality assurance experience
- Familiarity with payer enrollment and delegated credentialing
