Job Description

Summary

With minimal oversight, the Senior Reinsurance Analyst (IV) leads the collection and/or billing of reinsurance recoverables, exercising independent judgment and advanced technical expertise to address complex collection and reinsurance issues. The role further contributes to reinsurance and enterprise initiatives supporting broader strategic and operational priorities.

Essential Functions

Collection Focused:

· Lead end‑to‑end reinsurance recoverable collections, including direct outreach to reinsurers and brokers, and management of ongoing and targeted collection efforts.

· Analyze, resolve, and appropriately escalate complex collection issues, disputes, and contract interpretations.

· Review and respond to reinsurer and broker correspondence, providing substantive analysis of claims activity and reinsurance issues.

· Partner closely with Claims to ensure accurate and timely reinsurance reporting in compliance with contractual obligations.

· Collaborate with Billing and Finance teams to investigate and resolve billing discrepancies and reconcile aging balances.

· Ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness of reinsurance records in compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.

· Support reinsurance initiatives such as commutations, novations, portfolio consolidations, system migrations, and audit or legal inquiries as needed.

Billing Focused:

· Independently calculate, prepare, and issue ceded reinsurance billings in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.

· Record billing activity and related financial transactions in the accounting system in compliance with established accounting standards and internal controls.

· Partner with collections to investigate and respond to reinsurer and broker inquiries related to billings, balances, and discrepancies.

· Proactively research, analyze, and resolve complex and/or historic open balance transactions with reinsurers and brokers.

· Maintain detailed documentation, diary systems, and audit trails supporting billings, ledger entries, and reconciliations.

· Assist with cash application activities and clearing aging balances on reinsurance ledgers.

· Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.

· Collaborate with leadership to identify inefficiencies and support enhancements to billing, collection, and reconciliation processes.

· Ensure all work is completed in accordance with established protocols, procedures, and internal control requirements.

Related Functions:

· Provide strategic support to reinsurance counsel in connection with pending arbitrations, mediations, and litigation, including analysis of reinsurance contracts, claims activity, and financial exposure.

· Serve as a knowledgeable resource for internal audit inquiries and reviews, including preparation of documentation, explanation of processes and controls, and coordination of responses to audit findings or recommendations.

Required Skills

· Strong understanding of reinsurance concepts, contract language, and recoverability issues.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively and build productive relationships with reinsurers, brokers, and internal stakeholders.

· Solid understanding of reinsurance principles, structures, and related contract language, with the ability to apply terms to billing analysis, recoverability and collection matters.

· Deep understanding of underlying insurance claims, including coverage interpretation and allocation analysis, particularly for long‑tail exposures such as asbestos, pollution, and other legacy claims.

· Proven ability to analyze and resolve reinsurance and collection issues, exercising sound judgment and independent decision‑making.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a deadline‑driven environment.

· Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple assignments simultaneously, and consistently meet established deadlines.

· Proficiency with standard business applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

· High level of competency working with reinsurance systems and data to support collections, reporting, and analysis.

Experience

8+ years’ experience in reinsurance collections or equivalent reinsurance or direct claims experience

Required Education

Two-year college, trade, or technical school required.

Preferred Education or Certification

Bachelor’s Degree
