About the Role:
The Medical Courier (Labs & Pharm) plays a critical role in the healthcare supply chain by ensuring the timely, safe, and compliant transportation of medical specimens, pharmaceuticals, and related healthcare materials between laboratories, pharmacies, hospitals, and other medical facilities. This position demands meticulous attention to detail to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive medical items while adhering to all regulatory and safety standards. The courier will be responsible for managing routes efficiently to meet strict delivery schedules, often under time-sensitive conditions. By serving as a reliable link between healthcare providers and patients, the Medical Courier directly contributes to the quality of patient care and the smooth operation of medical services. This role requires a strong commitment to professionalism, safety, and customer service in a fast-paced and regulated environment.
Responsibilities:
- Pick up and deliver medical specimens, pharmaceuticals, and related healthcare materials promptly and securely between designated locations such as laboratories, pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics.
- Ensure all items are handled in compliance with applicable health, safety, and transportation regulations, including proper packaging and temperature control requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, pickups, and chain-of-custody documentation to ensure traceability and accountability.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, management and/or healthcare personnel to confirm delivery details, resolve issues, and provide updates on shipment status.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintain cleanliness and organization of the delivery vehicle to ensure safety and reliability.
Route Information:
This will be a Monday through Friday route in the evening starting at approximately 5:00p.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must possess a reliable and fuel-efficient vehicle.
- Must have a fully functioning smart phone.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to pass background check.
- Must be able to differentiate colors for coding purposes.
- Basic knowledge of transportation safety and handling of medical materials.
- Physical ability to lift and carry packages up to 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a medical courier or in a healthcare logistics role.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements.
- Certification in handling hazardous materials (HAZMAT) or bloodborne pathogens.
- Experience using GPS and route optimization software.
- Strong customer service experience in a healthcare or transportation setting.

The Medical Courier utilizes strong organizational and time management skills daily to plan and execute efficient delivery routes that meet strict deadlines. Attention to detail is essential for verifying shipment contents, ensuring proper packaging, and maintaining accurate documentation to comply with healthcare regulations. Effective communication skills are used to coordinate with medical staff and resolve any delivery issues promptly and professionally. Physical stamina and safe driving skills are critical for handling packages carefully and navigating various traffic and weather conditions. Additionally, familiarity with technology such as GPS devices and electronic logging systems enhances route accuracy and delivery tracking.
