Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Orthopedics and Specialty Clinics, the Clinic Technician Performs a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to support patient care in a specialty clinic. Prepares patients for visits by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical histories, and updating records in the electronic health system. Assists providers during examinations and procedures, ensuring proper setup of equipment and maintaining a sterile, organized environment. Coordinates and processes prior authorizations, referrals, and diagnostic testing as required by the specialty. Communicates effectively with patients to provide instructions, education, and follow-up care information. Monitors inventory, stocks supplies, and ensures all equipment is functioning properly. Adheres to clinic protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements while always maintaining patient confidentiality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs selected nursing and administrative duties and assists the physician as part of the clinical care team.
  • Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts prior to appointment with recent test results and correspondence and determines needed services per practice protocol.
  • Confers with physician regarding any incomplete patient tests/consults or other incomplete orders prior to patient visit.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment, escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room and taking histories or vital signs.
  • Prepares, cleans, and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
  • Prepares and maintains clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Triages and responds to patient communications within practice policy.
  • Assists with scheduling tests and treatments, pre-certifying patients for hospital care and/or procedures, and processing referrals to other providers.
  • Contributes to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Interacts with patients, families, providers, and other staff in a professional, positive, and respectful manner.
  • Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with other team members.
  • Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
  • Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
  • Protects patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with HIPPA and privacy laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

License/Certification: N/A

Experience/Skills: Should have working knowledge of medical abbreviations and medical terminology. Excellent computer skills required. Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time; push, pull, and reach. The ability to move and lift patients when necessary. Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
