Job Description

Design Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Design Engineer in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of product design and frontend engineering, focused on turning design intent into high-quality, production-ready user experiences. You will help bridge the gap between Figma and code, ensuring that what is designed is faithfully and beautifully shipped. Working within a fast-scaling product environment, you will elevate UI quality, refine interaction details, and strengthen the overall design system across the platform. The role is highly collaborative, pairing closely with product designers and engineers to improve how interfaces are built and delivered. You will also play a key role in shaping tooling, workflows, and systems that accelerate the entire product development lifecycle. This is a hands-on, high-impact position for someone who cares deeply about craft, systems thinking, and shipping polished user experiences at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Own and evolve a cross-platform design system across both Figma and production code, ensuring consistency between design intent and implementation.
  • Build and maintain reusable, production-ready UI components using modern frontend technologies, contributing directly to product features and system foundations.
  • Drive UI quality across the product by refining interactions, responsive behaviors, accessibility, loading states, and edge-case experiences.
  • Improve design-to-development workflows by creating internal tools, documentation systems, and prototyping or automation solutions that increase team efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with product designers and engineers to translate product strategy into high-quality, scalable user interfaces.
  • Review and influence frontend implementations to ensure adherence to design standards and system integrity.
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of experience building production-grade frontend applications in component-based architectures.
  • Strong expertise in TypeScript, React, and modern CSS (Tailwind or similar), with solid understanding of component design and system architecture.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining design systems used in real production environments, not only design tools.
  • Strong visual and interaction design sensibility, with a portfolio demonstrating both engineering depth and UI craft.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Storybook, design system libraries, and modern frontend build tools is a plus.
  • Experience improving developer experience, building internal tools, or optimizing engineering workflows.
  • Comfortable working in collaborative environments with designers and engineers, balancing autonomy with feedback-driven iteration.
  • Interest in AI-assisted development workflows and experimentation with modern coding tools (e.g., AI-powered IDEs or assistants).
  • Strong ownership mindset, with the ability to think in systems, challenge inefficiencies, and ship high-quality work.
Benefits:
  • Remote-first working model with flexibility and cross-team collaboration across time zones.
  • Opportunity to work on a high-scale product used by tens of thousands of professionals globally.
  • Strong focus on engineering and design craftsmanship, with high autonomy and ownership.
  • Access to modern development tools, AI-assisted workflows, and experimental engineering practices.
  • Collaborative environment with experienced product designers and engineers.
  • Opportunity to shape design engineering practices and influence system-level product quality.
  • Inclusive and equal opportunity workplace culture.
