Summary:
Activities Guide is a Moonlight Outfitters position requiring outdoor teaching and facilitation experience and the personality and ability to relate to and build trust with Moonlight Basin members, families, and guests in a safe and fun learning environment. Guides will facilitate member activities such as archery, mountain biking, hiking, Yellowstone Park tours, scenic river floats, and high ropes climbing. Safety and fun within a unique outdoor experience are the ultimate goals of the Moonlight Outfitters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Guiding
- Plan, organize, and provide safe, fun, and professional instruction both on Moonlight basin property and surrounding areas.
- Provide safe transportation to and from various guiding locations and operate company vehicles within the guidelines of Moonlight Basin and Federal and State laws.
- Meet and greet clients on time with a professional attitude and appearance.
- Assess member/guest skills and tailor session appropriately for ability, goals, and environmental conditions.
- Conduct lessons and guiding with safety as the priority in a mountain environment.
Equipment Maintenance
- Inspect, repair, and maintain all equipment associated with archery, mountain biking, river floats, hiking and climbing activities.
- Inspect and maintain all vehicles used in the transportation of members and equipment.
- Report repair needs of vehicles and equipment to management.
- Use inspection sheets to assess all equipment for safety prior to each use.
- Report problems with any equipment or if unsure, report concerns directly to manager.
Food Handling
- Complete a Montana state food handling certification.
- Help organize and package food and snacks for specific guided activities that include lunch.
- Clean up and re-organize backstock for snacks and beverages daily.
Facility Maintenance
- Help maintain all spaces pertaining to guided activities such as storage areas, food storage areas, ropes course structures and outdoor teaching areas including daily trash and recycling.
- Maintain rental equipment, vehicle cleanliness and all facilities and equipment that support the outfitters guide program.
- Maintain a high standard of organization with all tool and equipment areas.

Qualifications:
Certifications/ Training
- Adult, infant and child CPR required.
- Driver’s license and clean driving record are mandatory.
- Ability to safely drive 10-15 passenger vehicles including suburban and sprinter van styles.
- Outdoor activity facilitation experience in activities such as archery, climbing, mountain biking, hiking and river floating.
- Willingness to participate in all training and educational clinics.
- Ability to read and understand all safety policies and guidelines.
Working Conditions:
This position will be 80% outdoors and 20% indoors. Work hours will typically be between 8am and 7pm depending on the activity. Yellowstone Park guide hours will fall between 7am and 7pm depending on transportation and environmental conditions. Conditions in the field are typical to those found in southwest Montana during June through October. Exposure to the weather, heat, and working in the water, grass, mud and snow with uneven surfaces is possible throughout the season. Safe shelters and indoor facilities are available whenever inclement weather affects outdoor guided activities. When indoors the work environment is characterized as that found in a typical bicycle gear and outdoor equipment rental shop, with moderate temperatures and low noise levels.
Physical Requirements:
- Work outdoors for 8-10 hours a day in all weather conditions commonly found in southwest Montana.
- Ability to use various hand tools and non-motorized equipment to assist in maintaining trails, trail signs and activity equipment.
- Bend at the waist, twist upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulders, flex and extend ankle, knee, and hip joints or any other physical positions associated with hiking, biking, climbing, driving, floating and archery.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs., push and pull 20-30 lbs.
