Under the supervision of the Director of Volunteer Engagement, the Volunteer & Intern Engagement Manager is responsible for managing volunteer and intern recruitment and placement efforts to provide a full range of support for the agency’s programmatic and operational needs. This role leads all outreach efforts, including building and maintaining key partnerships, to connect potential volunteers and interns to a variety of support roles at all JVS locations. As a part of this work, the Manager plans and implements strategic and timely engagement efforts and events to support and retain an inclusive volunteer community.
As a member of the Advancement Team, the Manager supports the cultivation and stewardship of all volunteers. In particular, the Manager works collaboratively with the Director of Volunteer Engagement to help facilitate volunteer participation of JVS Board Members, donors, prospective donors, community leaders, and corporate professionals. Additionally, the Manager will collaborate with the Marketing Team to engage volunteers through social media, quarterly newsletters, and other volunteer communications.Accountability and Results Focused:
- Recruit, assess, match, and support volunteers and interns
- Manage databases and track volunteer data and hours
- Enforce volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
- Supervise 1-2 interns to support volunteer program efforts
- Work with the Director of Volunteer Engagement to evaluate, on an on-going basis, the success of the volunteer program, and the relative satisfaction of the volunteers and staff, to design program improvements where needed
Recruit, interview, place and volunteers and interns throughout the agency:
- Work closely with staff to understand the volunteer needs of programs and departments
- Recruit and interview volunteers and interns and make decisions on placement
- Onboard and Offboard volunteers and interns; work with program staff and the data and IT teams to ensure proper procedures are followed and executed
- Provide clear and effective communication channels with staff and volunteers
- Work closely with volunteer and intern supervisors to maintain accurate records of volunteers, and to ensure that each volunteer and intern receives a high level of customer service and has positive experience with the agency
Build relationships, collaboration and teamwork:
- Support and promote the mission and philosophy of JVS both internally and outside the agency
- Build and maintain partnerships with universities/colleges and community partners to optimize recruitment channels, establish new partnerships for program expansion and diversification
- Develop staff training materials, guides and communications to support staff overseeing and managing volunteers and interns.
- Confer with the Director of Volunteer Engagement and staff to resolve volunteer grievances
- Engage volunteers through social media, quarterly newsletters, and other communications in partnership with the Marketing Team.
- Implement engagement efforts and events such as recognition of volunteer anniversaries, milestones, and performance
- As a member of the Advancement Team, attend weekly team meetings and collaborate on team projects, efforts and events.
Engagement & event planning:
- Plan and implement all volunteer engagement events and activities
- Assist with corporate group service days and other one-time volunteer events
- Assist Advancement Team with Gala and other events
- 3-5 years of work experience in related field, preferred—volunteer management/human resources/HR recruiting/job placement
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships; knowledge and understanding of the Boston and Greater Boston area to build key partnerships for recruitment.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills – including oral, written, and presentation communication, with the ability to utilize clear and concise communication.
- Ability to work independently, as well as to work in a team.
- Proven track record of maintaining systems and protocols
- Superb attention to detail
- Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively to prioritize and manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive and database management. Salesforce experience is preferred
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule; in-person work is required on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
- Non-profit experience is preferred
Bachelor's degree

$60,000 - $65,000 a year
