Process Engineering Intern

Reports to: Engineering Supervisor

Hours/schedule: Monday-Thursday 6:00a-4:30p (10-12 weeks)

The Process Engineering Intern assists in the development and support of the electronic manufacturing processes for new or existing products. Applies lean manufacturing principles to improve production quality and decrease manufacturing costs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in projects to develop, analyze, and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency of production.
  • Assist with bond/conformal coat process development.
  • Assist providing insight of chemicals compounds use during manufacturing process.
  • Design, test, and validate new manufacturing processes and equipment to ensure quality, reliability, and scalability.
  • Responsible, Complete and Maintain Lessons Learned documentation after NPI build
  • Understands and applies Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing principles to improve production quality and decrease manufacturing costs. Ability to troubleshoot and complete Root Cause Analysis of process issues.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering team on development and improvement of process documentation such as work instructions, manufacturing procedures, checklists and troubleshooting guides.
  • Provides key support of manufacturing productivity, efficiency, and quality, by working within technical support teams to improve cycle times and reduce manufacturing costs and defects.
  • Work with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering on Customer issues and provide Corrective Actions and Root Cause Analysis of process issues.
  • Investigate and assist in the implementation of process requirements for equipment tooling, materials, and methods of manufacturing.
  • Work in teams on DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and NPIs (New Product Introductions).
  • Participate in technical projects that involve process improvement or development of new processes.
  • Support product specific and site-wide continuous improvement initiatives/activities.
  • Adhere to the documented quality management system.

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field)
  • Completed at least sophomore year of coursework
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing concepts (e.g., 5S, waste reduction, continuous improvement)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-managed
