About This Position
Lowe Law: The Insurance Outlaw is a fast-growing plaintiff personal injury firm in Houston seeking Pre-Litigation Paralegals to move cases from intake through demand, negotiation, and settlement. This is a focused PI role that partners closely with our Pre-Litigation Attorney's and support team. You will build complete medical packages, draft persuasive demand letters, manage liens and reductions, communicate with clients and providers, maintain accurate case management and deadlines, and negotiate assigned cases with total medical specials of $50,000 or less under attorney protocols. Schedule is Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM, on site at either our North or South location.
Compensation is $50,000 to $60,000 annually DOE with performance incentives. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid time off and holidays, paid parking, firm events and training. All major benefits are offered except a 401(k).
Responsibilities
- Records, bills, and affidavits: request, track, and organize medical records and itemized billing, radiology, operative reports, and business-records affidavits; maintain treatment chronology and specials spreadsheet.
- Demand packages: draft and assemble demand letters with facts, liability theory, injuries, impairment, specials, photos and exhibits; create send-ready PDFs for attorney review and approval.
- Treatment tracking: monitor referrals, imaging, gaps in treatment, discharge status, balances, and LOPs; resolve bottlenecks with providers and clients.
- Claims and coverage: open and manage BI, UM, UIM, MedPay, and PIP claims; request policy limits, verify coverage, log claim numbers and adjusters; track crash reports, witness info, and police narratives.
- Negotiation and settlement support: directly negotiate assigned files with total medical specials of $50,000 or less within authority bands and playbooks; document offers and counters, value drivers, and risk factors; for higher exposure matters, prepare specials summaries, settlement memos, and mediation prep, and escalate to attorney.
- Liens and reductions: identify hospital and health liens, Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and ERISA leads; prepare reduction requests with supporting documentation and track outcomes.
- Client communication: set expectations, provide status updates, prepare clients for recorded statements when appropriate per attorney direction, and document all contacts.
- Deadline control and QA: maintain accurate ticklers, ensure HIPAA compliance, and keep files audit-ready under firm SOPs; assist with file readiness for mediation or suit.
- Administrative support: convert all actionable emails and voicemails to tasks in the case system, maintain clean digital filing, and coordinate with team members for weekly priorities.
Experience
- Either a paralegal certificate or at least two years of plaintiff personal injury pre-litigation experience, Texas preferred.
- Proven ability to obtain and organize medical records and billing, draft demand letters, and perform entry-level negotiations on lower-exposure cases.
- Familiarity with liens and reductions, including hospital, health plan, Medicare, Medicaid, and ERISA concepts.
- Strong writing, organization, and follow-through with comfort managing a high-volume docket.
- Experience with case management software such as CasePeer or similar, e-signature tools such as Vinesign, and basic spreadsheet skills for specials and reductions.
- Professional communication skills with clients, providers, and adjusters, including effective phone etiquette and documentation of all interactions.
