About This Position

Midwest Co-op is currently accepting applications for the position of Driver 3. Under the direction of the Manager, the Driver 3 is responsible for safely operating straight trucks in various configurations, along with highway tractors and trailers, to deliver and pick up bulk and packaged products for MCS patrons and facilities. This advanced entry‑to‑intermediate role requires a valid AZ license and emphasizes strong proficiency in vehicle operation, load management, safety compliance, and customer service. The Driver 3 supports more complex and higher‑volume delivery demands while maintaining exceptional safety and service standards.


SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP

  • May provide on‑the‑job guidance and support for Driver 1 and Driver 2 team members, back‑up drivers, and seasonal staff.
  • Offers informal mentorship related to safe driving practices, product handling, and customer service expectations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

VEHICLE OPERATION & SAFETY

  • Operates single‑axle and tandem straight trucks (van, flatbed, feed, tank configurations) and highway tractors with various trailer types, in compliance with all safety standards and company procedures.
  • Performs comprehensive pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections including fluid levels, tires, brakes, lights, coupling/uncoupling systems, and safety equipment.
  • Maintains a clean, safe vehicle while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Drives confidently in diverse environments including rural, agricultural, industrial, and highway conditions.


LOADING, UNLOADING & PRODUCT HANDLING

  • Loads and unloads feed, crop inputs, hardware, and energy products using manual handling techniques or forklift equipment.
  • Ensures all loads are properly secured, balanced, and compliant with MTO regulations and company standards.
  • Protects product quality and minimizes risk of contamination, spills, or damage.


DELIVERY & CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Follows assigned delivery routes, schedules, and dispatch instructions, with the ability to adjust to changing operational demands.
  • Provides professional, courteous service while representing MCS on customer sites.
  • Communicates customer feedback, delivery concerns, or service issues to branch leadership.


DOCUMENTATION & COMPLIANCE

  • Completes bills of lading, transfer documents, weigh slips, invoices, and daily trip/inspection logs with accuracy.
  • Ensures all required permits, licenses, inspection forms, and regulatory documents are maintained and current.
  • Follows all legal and regulatory requirements including MTO, TDG, WHMIS, and internal policies.


TEAMWORK & BRANCH SUPPORT

  • Assists with inter‑branch product transfers and supports efficient logistics operations.
  • Participates in general branch tasks including warehouse duties, yard work, and equipment staging.
  • Works collaboratively across teams to support safe and efficient operational outcomes.


OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Follow all health and safety requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including using required protective equipment, following safety procedures, and reporting any potential hazards.
  • Follow all company personnel policies, including expectations related to training, performance, and conduct.
  • Participate in required MCS training such as Ministry of Labour courses, Health & Safety Standards, Policies, and AODA accessibility training.
  • Work cooperatively with approved contractors and follow all related safety procedures when contractors are on site.
  • Maintain any required licenses, certifications, or regulatory requirements needed for your role.
  • Perform other assigned duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
  • Class AZ driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age and have a minimum of 3 years experience with class of driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications such as forklift, WHMIS, and TDG.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Customer service focus and willingness to learn new processes.
  • Ability to lift materials within company and regulatory limits.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily works outdoors or in warehouse or vehicle setting in all weather conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to dust, fumes, and agricultural or fuel-related odours.
  • Exposure to varied road, traffic, and weather conditions; loading and unloading may occur outdoors.
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and the ability to lift up to 25 kg.
  • Occasional extended hours may be required during peak periods or special events
