Job Overview:RCSI is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Foreman to lead steel erection crews on solar and renewable construction projects across California. This role is responsible for supervising and performing all aspects of steel construction, including structural assemblies, racking systems, and welding operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong background in commercial steel construction, proven ability to manage crews, and a commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crew Leadership: Supervise and direct steel erection crews, ensuring productivity, safety, and high-quality results.
  • Steel Assembly: Oversee the erection of structural steel components, solar racking systems, and related steel assemblies.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Ensure welding and fabrication tasks are performed to code and project specifications.
  • Scheduling & Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, concrete, and electrical teams to maintain timelines and site coordination.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret project drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to guide crew activities.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve on-site issues related to steel installation to avoid delays.
  • Safety Oversight: Enforce strict adherence to OSHA and company safety protocols, including conducting regular safety meetings.
  • Documentation: Complete daily reports, maintain crew timesheets, and track project progress.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years in commercial structural steel construction with at least 2+ years in a supervisory or foreman role.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong expertise in steel erection, welding, racking systems, and rigging practices.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead crews, delegate tasks, and train new team members.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and coordination skills with project managers, subcontractors, and crews.
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving construction challenges in the field.
  • Equipment Proficiency: Ability to safely operate equipment such as cranes, telehandlers, forklifts, and man lifts.
  • Certifications: Welding certification and OSHA safety training strongly preferred.
  • Travel Availability: Willingness to travel for projects, working out of town on a 4x10 schedule (Monday to Thursday) with overnight stays as needed.

Schedule:

  • 4 x 10's (Monday to Thursday) - Three-day weekends!
  • Occasional 5 x 8's depending on project needs.

Work Location:

  • Based in Escondido, CA with projects across Northern and Southern California.
  • Travel and overnight stays required depending on project location.
