SummaryReporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Financial Officer leads the organization’s financial operations and serves as a key member of the Executive Team. The CFO ensures the accuracy of financial reporting and compliance with GAAP while supporting strategic decision‑making that will keep the organization financially stable. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with hunger‑relief partners (HRP), staff, volunteers, donors, and the public.
- Serve as a strategic advisor on long‑term and short‑term financial planning, goals, and policies.
- Responsible for financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis of income, expenses, and earnings.
- Present quarterly financial statements, cash flow, and analysis to the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee. Responsible for Finance Committee meeting minutes. Support the Board Treasurer and President and CEO by attending Board meetings and answering financial questions as necessary.
- Manage cash flow per cash management and investment policies to optimize earnings for short-term and long-term cash investments.
- Ensure strong internal controls, appropriate segregation of duties through maintaining, and updating accounting policies, procedures, and manuals that will contribute to successful independent audits.
- Lead the Finance Team, ensuring timely reconciliations, accurate reporting, and adherence to organizational standards laid out in the accounting policy and procedural manual.
- Manage the annual and single audit, coordinate with external auditors, resolve findings promptly, and implement improvements. Collaborate with tax accountants to complete and review the 990 annual filing.
- Lead the annual budget process in collaboration with department leaders and the finance team; ensure budgets are accurately entered into the financial system. Present to Finance Committee.
- Provide and validate data for Feeding America’s compliance requirements through timely and accurate submission of all financial reports and data. Calculate dollars per meal using Feeding América’s guidance at least every three years.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of compliance requirements for regulatory agencies in both Iowa and Illinois to prepare and file all financial information timely.
- Ensure proper recording and tracking of all grants, including lifecycle stewardship, compliance, drawdowns, and reporting to support all strategic initiatives.
- Evaluate and recommend insurance coverage to mitigate risk by working with the organization’s insurance brokers.
- Provide Human Resource policy and benefits oversight, including payroll and employee benefits, to ensure cost‑effective plans.
- Manage IT operations in partnership with third‑party providers; oversee equipment inventory, approve purchases, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity training.
- Review vendor contracts together with the CEO to ensure River Bend Food Bank content reflects the intent of River Bend and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; at least 10 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPA or master’s in accounting strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and accounting software; ability to learn new systems used for food banking.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to present information effectively to staff, Board members, and the public.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Detail‑oriented with strong typing and data‑entry skills.
- Commitment to the mission of ending hunger.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Successful completion of background check, credit check, and drug screening.
