This is a high-impact, hands-on legal role focused on partnering with product and engineering teams to enable fast, responsible innovation. You will provide proactive legal guidance on privacy, data protection, and product-related matters, translating complex regulatory requirements into actionable solutions. The role requires balancing risk management with business enablement, ensuring product development and commercial initiatives move forward efficiently. You will help build scalable legal processes, contribute to privacy compliance programs, and advise on multi-jurisdictional regulatory developments, including AI and data privacy laws. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will influence decision-making across product, security, and customer-facing initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to shape a growing legal function while directly enabling business growth in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Accountabilities:- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to provide proactive legal advice on new products, features, and AI-driven initiatives, addressing privacy, PII handling, transparency, bias mitigation, and equal opportunity considerations.
- Own privacy compliance, including global DPA playbooks, privacy policy updates, and streamlining data subject access request (DSAR) processes.
- Respond to customer security and compliance questionnaires, creating scalable processes for high-volume responses.
- Develop customer-facing compliance documentation, FAQs, and go-to-market materials in collaboration with internal teams.
- Collaborate with Security and Customer Success teams on security incidents, drafting communications and ensuring regulatory alignment.
- Stay up to date on relevant privacy and AI regulations, including GDPR, the EU AI Act, and US federal/state AI/privacy laws, and provide actionable guidance.
- Advise on data practices, cross-border transfers, retention policies, and vendor compliance.
- Contribute to broader legal matters such as IP, employment, global expansion, fundraising, and shaping the operations of the legal function.
Requirements:
- JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in the US (or equivalent qualification in a relevant jurisdiction).
- 68 years of legal experience, with strong focus on product counseling, privacy, and data protection.
- In-house experience at a fast-growing technology or SaaS company, working closely with Product, Engineering, and Security teams.
- Technical curiosity and ability to understand product architecture, SaaS platforms, and data flows to provide practical guidance.
- Commercial mindset, enabling product velocity while managing legal risk.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulations into clear, actionable guidance.
- Proven experience in privacy compliance, including DSARs, policy drafting, and regulatory monitoring.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to build effective relationships across teams.
- Bonus: Privacy certifications (CIPP, CIPM, CIPT), experience scaling a privacy or product legal function, or familiarity with legislative tracking platforms.
