About the Role
The Local IT Support Technician serves as a frontline technical resource responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing client IT environments. This role focuses on aligning customer infrastructure with business needs while delivering exceptional customer service and technical expertise.
The support technician installs, configures, and maintains computer systems, networks, and related technologies to ensure reliable performance and security. Working primarily at client locations, this position partners closely with clients and internal cross-functional teams to support local and wide area network environments and resolve technical issues efficiently.
Success in this role requires strong technical knowledge, business awareness, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels. The technician also supports managed services operations through remote monitoring and automation tools, contributing to proactive system management and scalable service delivery.
While the position is primarily remote, it does require on-site client support at minimum one day per week (minimum) within the Green Bay, WI metro area, and other local/regional client-site support, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain workstations, peripherals, and related hardware
- Deploy and support Windows and Mac operating systems
- Maintain and troubleshoot local network environments to optimize performance
- Perform proactive system maintenance following established standards and best practices
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues
- Provide onsite and remote end-user support through helpdesk and ticketing systems
- Configure software applications and system functionality according to client specifications
- Monitor system health, performance, and security alerts; escalate issues as needed
- Perform patch management, system configuration, and updates
- Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, repairs, and procedures
- Enter time, expenses, and service updates within the ticketing system in real time
- Support managed services operations using monitoring and automation platforms (e.g., ConnectWise Automate)
- Assist with upgrades, deployments, and maintenance scheduling with minimal business disruption
- Provide user guidance and training on hardware and software usage
- Support capacity planning through performance monitoring and reporting
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to resolve technical challenges
- Coordinate with internet service providers during connectivity disruptions
- Follow structured change management and deployment processes
- Identify equipment needs and recommend procurement when necessary
- Continuously improve client satisfaction and service delivery outcomes
Requirements
- Training in Information Technology, related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 3+ year of experience in an IT support or technician role
- Working knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking fundamentals
- Experience within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment
- Experience troubleshooting desktop systems and end-user environments
- Understanding of internet security and data privacy principles
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with ticketing systems or professional services automation tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Reliable transportation for local/regional client travel
- Ability to pass required background checks and drug screenings
- On-site client support one day per week (minimum), and other local/regional client-site support as needed
- Participation in an on-call rotation is required
Preferred Skills
- CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional, or similar certifications
- Experience supporting network devices and coordinating with ISPs
- Exposure to agile or small team environments
- Experience deploying and administering Windows operating systems at scale
