Staff Accountant at Illumination Foundation – Santa Ana, California
About This Position
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, day-to-day accounting (such as: Journal entries, revenue recognition, account reconciliations), overseeing the month end close process, maintaining the organization’s accounting system, monitoring contract and grant draw-downs, preparing monthly billing, completion of account and analytical tasks with clear understanding and knowledge of the complex contract processes and regulatory guidelines and assisting in report preparation. The Senior Accountant will assist in leading the department and be part of a collaborative team to ensure the accuracy and completion of the financial statements.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain specific general ledger accounts in full compliance with GAAP including preparation of journal entries.
- Responsible for tracking and record grants, donations, and fund-raising revenues accurately.
- Analyze various financial information in response to inquiries from managers, vendors, and employees.
- Manage reconciliation of bank accounts, credit card statements, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with preparation of annual tax returns and audit requests with external CPA firm.
- Assist in the monitoring of revenue and operating expenses, account receivables and cash flow. Provide reports on available finance resources as requested.
- Monitor financial administration of contracts to ensure that proper documentation is submitted for expenditures within specific time limitations.
- Provide a level of leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
- This position is onsite only. There is no remote or hybrid option at this time.

Preferred Experience/Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar field.
- 3-5 years of experience.
- Ability to calculate and compile data using spreadsheets or other software to generate reports.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting.
- Experience with Quickbooks Desktop, Net Suite, or comparable ERP systems.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel skills
- Solid experience with managing external and internal audit requests and managing the full cycle accounting process.
Preferred:
- Non-profit experience specifically with Federal government grants a plus.
- Experience with cost accounting a plus
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Mail, Docs, Sheets, Calendar).
