The Freight Analyst provides analytical, operational, and decision support for the company’s freight strategy, with primary responsibility for delivering fast, accurate freight cost estimates, particularly for complex and international sales opportunities. This role transforms freight data, rate structures, and shipment performance into actionable insights that support sales velocity, margin accuracy, and operational planning. Partnering closely with the Freight Manager, the Freight Analyst enables scalable quoting, strengthens freight decision-making, and ensures continuity of freight knowledge and support.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales Enablement & Freight Quoting:
- Serve as the primary responder for complex, international, and non-standard freight quote requests
- Translate sales requirements into accurate, defensible freight cost scenarios using established rate logic and assumptions
- Deliver freight quotes within defined SLAs to support deal velocity
- Document quoting logic, assumptions, risks, and scenarios for repeatability and learning
- Escalate expectations and trade-off decisions to the Freight Manager as needed
- Demonstrate Merchology Core Values daily
Analytics, Insights, & Cost Support
- Maintain and analyze freight data related to spend, service performance, additional freight charges, and claims
- Develop and maintain freight KPIs, dashboards, and reporting used by Operations and leadership
- Support carrier negotiations and strategy through modeling, historical analysis, and scenario development
- Identify drivers of freight cost variance, including unplanned additional freight charges, packaging issues, and execution-related costs
Operational & System Enablement
- Act as a primary power user of the ShipHawk TMS and carrier shipping tools to support quoting, execution analysis, and troubleshooting
- Support damage, loss, and freight claims analysis, documentation, and recovery tracking
- Assist with invoice review, audits, and discrepancy analysis
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Finance, Purchasing, and Technology
- Provide backup coverage for freight quoting and analysis during peak demand or Freight Manager absence
