About This Position

The nursing faculty member performs essential functions to assure quality nursing education for students. Assumes responsibility for classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical supervision of students.
  • * Master's Degree from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited university in Nursing required

  • Hold and maintain a current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas required
  • Has at least two years in the last four years of nursing practice experience in the anticipated subject area of teaching responsibility.
  • Preferably one year minimum in teaching of the four years nursing experience.
  • Preferably one year of pediatric clinical experience.

  • Competence in all basic areas of nursing practice.
  • Show evidence of teaching abilities and maintaining current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in subject area of teaching responsibility.
  • To communicate with and work under the direction of the Semester Coordinator and the Nursing Programs Director.
  • Be proficient with classroom and laboratory educational technology and become familiar with simulation technology.
  • Be knowledgeable in nursing informatics – computerized medical records and computer-based technology.
  • Be informed in learning management systems/platforms, such as Blackboard.
  • To become informed on the rules and regulations relating to Professional Nurse Education, Licensure and Practice for the State of Texas and implement those with students.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in accessible ways.
  • Knowledge of academic integrity standards and college-level expectations
  • Commitment to equity, access, and student success.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
  • To become familiar with the CTC Educational Guidelines.

  • Flexibility in adjusting to didactic/ laboratory/clinical course assignments as needed per the program.
  • Flexibility in adjusting to working in varied clinical areas at varied times to include evening and weekends.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with program and department faculty.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with the interdisciplinary team in clinical agencies.
  • Function as a member of a teaching team in both didactic and clinical setting.
  • Assumes responsibility for planning, directing, implementing, evaluating, and changing the course for which he/she has primary responsibility.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Participate in development of standards for admission, progression, probation, dismissal of students, and participation in academic guidance and counseling. · Schedule, supervise, guide, and evaluate student progress in the clinical area.
  • Responsible for all initial nursing procedures in the clinical area and ascertain student competency
  • Provide clinical instruction to students based on the availability of clinical sites (e.g. evenings/weekends).
  • Submit grades and official class rolls to the Records Department.
  • Be committed to professional and faculty development.
  • Membership in the Associate Degree Nursing Curriculum committee.
  • Participate in Department of Nursing & Allied Health Faculty Organization Committee meetings.
  • Serves on nursing department and/or campus-wide committees.
  • Participates in on-going appraisal of the program for continued national accreditation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Department Chair and Nursing Program Director.
