The Opportunity
TSPi is seeking a mid-career Data Analyst with experience working with federal program data. TSPi excels in meeting the needs of our partners (clients) by offering advanced technology solutions utilizing our industry-specific knowledge, iterative Agile approach, commitment and passion to serve, collaborative and fun team atmosphere, and pride in our work.
The successful candidate will contribute data analysis, data cleaning, and analytical code working as part of multiple small teams. Projects will include data-intensive federal government projects focused on justice, healthcare, social science, and public health-based research. The selected candidate will lead production of high quality and complex data products and must have skills in software and best practices for data management and analysis. They will participate in cross-functional teams in managing data, producing analytical files, performing visualization and statistical analysis, and communicating insights.
Core Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge in modern data management and analytical technologies to manage, visualize, and analyze data from a variety of federal datasets, including unstructured and qualitative/ text datasets.
- Support the stewardship and analysis of government data, with a focus on justice, healthcare, social science, and public health data.
- Provide support across the data lifecycle including data intake, storage, synthesis, automation, and analytical development.
- Work collaboratively with other team members and external stakeholders to lead development and implementation of QA/QC protocols, defect tracking and management for complex coding and data projects, and adhere to standards of data security, integrity, and availability.
- Lead contract tasks and interface with the client as a technical project representative.
Position Requirements & Preferences
- Bachelor’s degree + 9 years’ experience, Master’s degree + 7 years’ experience, PhD + 4 years’ experience
- Experience in a data-focused field. Subject matter degrees may be in informatics, statistics, justice, health, social science, economics, or a related field with a focus on data and analysis.
- Able to obtain and maintain public trust access for federal information systems and be able to complete a federal background check.
- Strong skills in statistical, data analytics, and data management languages: SQL, Python, SAS, and R.
- Experience working with relational databases, such as MySQL Server
- Experience with data linking methodologies, including fuzzy string matching methodologies such as Levenshtein distance, jaccard similarity index, and Jaro-Winkler similarity index
- Proficiency in version control tools (Git, Bitbucket, Sourcetree) and a strong commitment to implementing and maintaining development best practices.
- Critical thinker with collaborative focus, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continued skill development.
- Experience working in a consulting environment, including direct client engagement, stakeholder communication, and delivering high-quality, client-facing solutions
- Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and well-documented analyses, reports, and system documentation
- Preferred: Able to handle tasks such as digitizing forms, embedding scoring logic, automating workflows, integrating systems, and building dashboards for monitoring and reporting.
- Preferred: Statistics-focused background with experience in data analysis and interpreting complex datasets.
- Preferred: Experience with programmatic data from federal programs
- Preferred: Experience using secondary data sources to supplement primary data analyses (e.g. census data, geographic data, etc.)
- Preferred: Experience with AI-based processes and efficiencies, including coding companions
