This role is a key leadership position responsible for driving environmental, health, safety, and regulatory excellence across multi-site retail and distribution operations. You will ensure full compliance with Canadian federal and provincial regulations while building and sustaining a strong safety-first culture across all levels of the organization. Acting as both a strategic advisor and hands-on leader, you will partner with operations, supply chain, and corporate teams to identify risks, implement consistent EHS standards, and support safe business growth. The position also plays a critical role in managing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accurate reporting and regulatory alignment. You will lead audits, incident investigations, and compliance programs while engaging with regulators and internal stakeholders. This is a high-impact role for a leader who thrives in complex, decentralized environments and is passionate about operational safety and environmental stewardship.
- Develop and lead the overall EHS strategy across Canadian operations, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations across all sites.
- Design, implement, and standardize EHS policies, procedures, and programs across multi-location operations.
- Lead audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action programs to mitigate risk and improve safety performance.
- Manage relationships with regulators, handle inspections and enforcement actions, and ensure timely resolution of compliance issues.
- Oversee Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance, including reporting, registrations, and coordination with producer responsibility organizations.
- Partner with field and corporate teams to embed safety practices, support store openings and operational changes, and ensure consistency across locations.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs and support Joint Health & Safety Committees to strengthen safety culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
- 8–12+ years of progressive EHS experience, including leadership in multi-site or decentralized environments.
- Professional certification such as CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian OHS and environmental regulations across multiple provinces.
- Experience with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs is highly desirable.
- Background in retail, distribution, or large-scale operational environments is an asset.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and influencing skills across cross-functional teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities with strong regulatory understanding.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, geographically distributed environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 25–40% across Canada.
