Job Summary
The Genetic Counselor Assistant (GCA) provides specialized support to the Child Neurology Clinic, working closely with the Child Neurology Genetic Counselor to support patients with neurologic conditions that may have a genetic etiology.

The GCA is an integral member of the Child Neurology care team and contributes to the coordination of patient care, optimization of clinic and operational workflows, and the delivery of a patient-centered and administratively efficient clinic environment.

The GCA supports the Child Neurology Genetic Counselor by assisting with key aspects of the genetic evaluation process, including obtaining detailed family histories, triaging and tracking genetics-related referrals, collecting relevant medical records, and gathering prior genetic testing results when appropriate. The GCA also facilitates coordination with genetic testing laboratories, assists with care coordination when multiple providers or subspecialties are involved, and supports follow-up communication related to genetic testing and counseling services.

The GCA is responsible for all appointment scheduling for patients seen by the Child Neurology Genetic Counselor, including initial consultations, follow-up visits, and coordination of appointments with other Child Neurology providers or services when indicated. This includes managing scheduling workflows, monitoring appointment availability, communicating with patients and families regarding scheduling needs, and ensuring timely access to genetic counseling services.

In addition, the GCA assists with administrative and clinic support functions within the Child Neurology Clinic, helping to ensure accurate documentation, efficient clinic flow, and seamless integration of genetic counseling services into the overall neurology care plan.
