About This Position
Universal Banker
POSITION PURPOSE
Responsible for performing a broad variety of member services. Answer member questions regarding Credit Union services and perform a variety of account maintenance. Cross sell credit union products and services. Assist or refer members with questions or problems that arise. Attend to all phone inquiries and transactions for members. Assist and support operations staff. Must be available to travel to other offices as needed. Assist the call center in a prompt and courteous manner. Cash drawer handling as needed. Responsible for receiving, and processing applications for consumer loans. Refer home mortgage, and home equity loans to Mortgage Lending Officer. Meet with applicants to explain credit policies and to obtain additional loan information and documentation. Present loan requests for approval per loan policy. Ensure that members and prospective members are promptly and professionally served. Responsible for cross sales and goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
1. Assumes responsibility for the effective and professional performance of member service functions.
a. Ensures that the credit union's quality and professional reputation is projected and maintained.
b. Processes member requests and performs file maintenance and account changes as needed.
d. Assists the call center and handles a variety of service calls in a prompt and courteous manner.
e. Answers questions and solves problems for members by listening to problems, collecting data, securing answers, and reporting results to the inquiring party.
f. Cash drawer handling as needed.
g. Processes branch cash orders.
h. Assists with the ATM balancing and replenishing.
2. Assumes responsibility for effectively receiving, reviewing, and processing loan applications.
Ensures that lending operations are conducted in accordance with established credit union policies and are legally compliant. Ensures loan requests are properly documented.
Interviews, takes applications for all consumer loan products including VISA application, gather information, and processes preliminary documentation on loan requests.
Evaluates and verifies loan applications and credit criteria. View debt ratios. Verify employment and income. Determine value of collateral. Notifies applicants of loan decisions. Requests additional information if required.
Coordinates and processes closings. Ensure that each loan is promptly and properly prepared, documented, processed, approved, and disbursed.
Calculates terms, finance charges, and insurance on loans for proper disclosure on promissory notes.
Assists in servicing loans by processing such items as payoff, refinances, problem loan workout arrangements, address changes, payment extensions, collateral releases, and payment due date changes.
Assumes responsibility for gathering Vehicle title documents as needed and verifying automobile insurance coverages and perform automobile appraisals. Provides blue book values and answers questions regarding loans.
Cross sell ancillary products and auto buying services.
3. Assumes responsibility for the effective and professional completion of call center Agent Functions.
Receives member telephone questions and complaints and handles all calls in a professional manner.
Completes research and resolves documentation errors or discrepancies in a timely manner.
Provides basic information to members on accounts, orders, payments, products, and services.
4. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective and professional business relationships with members.
Counsels members regarding money management and financial matters.
Cross sells all credit union products and services.
Advise members of credit union policies and services.
5. Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and communication with area personnel and with management.
Attends meetings as required. Stays informed regarding legal and regulatory changes.
Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
Assists in training and cross-training of area staff.
Completes reports and records promptly and accurately. Prepare loan and all supporting documents as required.
Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
1. Member services functions are efficiently, effectively, and accurately performed in accordance with established policies, standards, and security procedures.
2. Good business relations exist with members. Member problems or questions are courteously and promptly resolved. Effective assistance is provided with member bookkeeping and checking account problems.
3. Good working relationships and coordination exist with area personnel and Management. Appropriate assistance is provided to area staff as needed. Supervisor is appropriately informed of area activities.
4. Required reports and records are accurate, complete, and timely.
5. The credit union's professional reputation is maintained and conveyed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification: High school graduate or equivalent.
Required Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of member services and products provided.
Understanding of members bookkeeping procedures.
Experience Required: One to three years of experience as a Universal Banker or similar related experience.
Skills/Abilities: Cash handling experience required. Well-developed sales skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Solid math and bookkeeping abilities.
Ability to interpret and apply financial information (e.g., credit scores, debt, assets, balances, payments, ratios, etc.)
Strong skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to operate related computer applications and
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
Finger Dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
Repetitive Motion: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)
