Job Description

The University of Montana invites applications for a Director of Enterprise and Database Systems for Information Technology (IT).

The Director of Enterprise and Database Systems provides strategic oversight and operational leadership for the University of Montana’s ERP ecosystem, including Banner HR, Finance, and Student modules, as well as the enterprise database infrastructure supporting these systems. Reporting to the Deputy CIO within the Enterprise Technology group, this position serves as the University’s primary coordinator for ERP and database operations across the main and affiliate campuses.

The Director leads a cross-functional team responsible for the secure, reliable, and innovative management of enterprise systems. This includes direct supervision of database administrators and indirect coordination with functional module leads across administrative units. The role requires close collaboration with campus stakeholders, IT development teams, and cloud service providers to ensure smooth operation of the ERP environment, successful system upgrades, and long-term technology planning. The Director plays a critical role in enterprise integration strategy, governance, and data security, and drives continuous improvement efforts in support of institutional goals.


  • Leading the strategic direction, maintenance, and enhancement of all ERP-related systems
  • Overseeing coordination of ERP upgrades, patches, testing, and system integrity assurance
  • Managing the relationship with hosting/cloud vendors, ensuring contractual compliance and service quality
  • Serving as liaison between IT and functional units to align business needs with technical solutions
  • Partnering with project managers to deliver high-impact technology initiatives on time and within scope
  • Championing data governance, compliance (FERPA, HIPAA), and security best practices
  • Driving digital transformation and modernization efforts across administrative platforms

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in enterprise systems management, including at least three (3) years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • At least three (3) years of experience in database administration (Oracle or comparable RDBMS)
  • Strong expertise in ERP environments, particularly Ellucian Banner or comparable systems
  • Proficiency with SQL and enterprise reporting tools (e.g., Argos, Tableau, PL/SQL Developer)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, system integrations, and SaaS solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience supervising technical teams and managing performance in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of ticketing and project tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, TeamDynamix, ServiceNow)
  • Understanding of data governance, data security, and regulatory compliance in higher education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Extensive experience with Ellucian Banner in a cloud-hosted environment
  • Experience with eVisions tools (FormFusion, Argos), and/or Tableau
  • Experience with enterprise ticketing/project management systems such as JIRA, TeamDynamix, or ServiceNow
  • Experience managing cloud-based infrastructure and integrations

Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
