About This Position
Job Summary: The Laboratory Operations Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operation of the Harmon laboratory. This position ensures compliance with all CAP, CLIA, and DNV standards while maintaining quality control, competency assessment, and regulatory documentation for decentralized testing. This position is the direct supervisor of all departmental areas of the laboratory function at the Harmon Hospital location but operates under the direction of the JCMH/HMH Chief Technologist.
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
Areas of responsibility: : Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Chemistry, PI, Information Systems, Serology, Phlebotomy, Office, Education (Employee and Student Programs), Pathology, Point of Care, Coding/Billing/Medical Necessity, Administrative Assistance, Corporate Compliance of the Harmon Laboratory.
· Provides work direction and training for all personnel and students in designated areas in a timely and effective manner.
· Obtains support services that improve and facilitate patient care.
· Assists Director in counseling and solving problems in a timely and supportive manner.
· Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies within the approved budget..
· Able to perform duties of staff technologist as required and maintains an appropriate level of competency in the areas of responsibility.
· Participates actively in departmental meetings, committees, and task forces (including hospital level when appropriate).
· Promotes an effective communication network on unit and between departments.
· Works with Director for adjustments to the day-to-day staffing needs and assures an equitable distribution of work.
· Acts as leader and role model to lab staff, and all staff within the organization.
· Promotes good interpersonal relationship with the Medical Staff to assure satisfactory communication and reports any issues to executive management.
· Maintain availability to answer questions or fix problems that might arise in their section of responsibility (on and off duty)
· Evaluates employee performance as indicated and employee is made cognizant if there is need for improvement. Specific goals are established that are measurable and realistic, with a completion date/time frame noted.
· Coordinates/completes equipment maintenance requirements and instrument repairs with necessary documentation maintained.
· Establishes and monitors appropriate Quality Control materials, acceptable ranges and documentation as needed.
· Maintains accreditation requirements appropriately for areas of responsibility.
· Demonstrates strong leadership by developing standards of performance, areas/personnel responsible for accountability and appropriate delegation to various support personnel.
· Ensure compliance with API, CLIA, and DNV regulatory requirements, including document control of policy updates, self-inspections assignment and completion, and staff records of competency.
· Develop, implement, and delegate training programs and competency assessments for all POCT operators and phlebotomy.
· Assists on bill corrections of Harmon Laboratory failures.
· Maintain and update all HMH policies, procedures and documentation.
· Under the direction of the Chief Technologist, counsel staff, on work performances, attendance, and stands of conduct.
· Collaborate with IT and LIS personnel to ensure accurate data transmission and result reporting.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Professional Requirements
· Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean, including wearing identification while on duty.
· Completes annual education requirements.
· Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
· Attends mandatory meetings; attends and/or reads minutes of other scheduled meetings.
· Supports the Mission and goals of JCMH and department for quality patient care.
· Respects patient confidentiality and uses discretion in discussion of patient information.
· Recognizes when others are in need of assistance and consistently offers to help when own workload permits or finds someone who can. Assists Managers/Supervisors with scheduling/workload needs.
· Demonstrates courteous behavior and telephone etiquette through polite and respectful communication with all patients, guests, and co-workers.
· Follows hospital and departmental requirements for infection control and safety.
· Maintaining professional knowledge and skills (competency).
Regulatory and Education Requirements:
· MT (ASCP) or equivalent registry required for general Lab.
· Bachelor’s degree with Medical technology, chemical, physical, or biological science.
· Current certification by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent required.
Skills:
· Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college level (4 years).
· Organizational skills
· Strong technical and problem solving skills.
