About This Position
We are seeking dependable and compassionate caregivers to provide part-time companionship services within the North Chicago VA Community (Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center). We are currently hiring part-time caregivers, with potential full-time opportunities available in the near future. This role focuses on social engagement, supervision, and enhancing the overall well-being of veterans through meaningful interaction and support. We are looking for quality caregivers who take pride in their work and want to give back to our veterans through genuine companionship and care. The ideal caregiver is patient, engaging, and passionate about building connections while promoting independence and dignity.
Key Responsibilities- Provide companionship through conversation, music, reading, and engaging activities
- Support veterans during outings, walks, or recreational activities within the community
- Transport and escort veterans into the community if approved by the VA and responsible parties
- Encourage socialization and participation in daily activities
- Provide supervision to ensure safety during interactions and movement
- Assist with light tasks such as meal setup or organizing personal items, if needed
- Monitor and report any changes in mood, behavior, or condition to the care team
- Complete required documentation and shift notes
- Friendly, engaging, and personable
- Patient and attentive with strong interpersonal skills
- Passionate about supporting and giving back to veterans
- Reliable and consistent with scheduling
- Observant and communicative with the care team
- Able to create a positive, respectful, and uplifting environment
- Building meaningful relationships with veterans
- Keeping veterans socially engaged and emotionally supported
- Creating a safe, positive, and respectful environment
- Encouraging independence while offering support when needed
- Communicating clearly with the care team regarding any updates or concerns

Requirements
Caregiving experience preferred (CNA/HHA a plus)
