The Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of production, inspection, and other business activities across all shifts in those work centers to ensure that finished goods meet customers’ specifications and Elmet Technologies’ standards. The incumbent will establish priorities, goals and expectations, execute business direction, and manage costs as well as driving overall departmental improvement through participation in safety, productivity, and cost projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise machine operators in manufacturing Elmet’s products.
- Responsible to meet performance metrics for Safety, Quality, On-Time Delivery, and Cost in your area.
- Set work assignments and schedules that optimize efficiencies, minimize downtime and cost.
- Responsible to work well with your peers who are supervising other operations, with the ultimate goal to have Elmet achieve company performance metrics.
- Responsible for a healthy, positive culture within your team and with your team working with others.
- Support continuous improvement activities that allow Elmet to improve our competitive position by improving in all metrics areas.
- Responsible for recognizing good performance, and for coaching and applying progressive discipline when needed to support Elmet company policies and expectations.
- Performance reviews of employees in your area on an annual basis.
- Comply with all environmental regulations and procedures.
- Supervision of the Inspection Department including, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; interviewing and training employees; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Control inspection workflow to meet customer deadlines, taking responsibility for product quality by supervising all aspects of inspection and testing for incoming, in-process and finished goods.
- Assist in the investigation and disposition of nonconforming products and drive corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensure that inspection standards, procedures, and equipment provide reliable results in the detection of products that do not meet customer requirements. Develop new methods or recommend new equipment, if necessary, to perform effective inspections.
- Develop, implement, and maintain inspection documents, such as inspection records, material certifications, nonconforming material reports and special customer required reports. Develop efficient and accurate documentation methods.
- Develop and maintain documented procedures for all inspection processes.
- Work with Engineering, Operations, and others to review and disposition nonconforming product and customer returns through the NCM disposition process per OP-09. Use the result of this process to drive continuous product and process improvements.
- Maintain employee training database for all direct report employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Three to five years’ experience in a supervisory role preferred, ideally in manufacturing
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills; the ability to build a team, hold employees accountable and to retain and motivate people
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
- Experience with production scheduling, MRP/ERP systems, and lean manufacturing preferred
- Ability to plan and organize work daily, weekly, monthly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Experience with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 Quality management systems a plus
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
- Exposure to manufacturing conditions, which may include loud noise, variable temperatures, and dust.
