Gift of Life has been curing blood cancer and other life-threatening diseases for 30 years by providing the healthy volunteer donors patients need for lifesaving blood stem cell and marrow transplants.

About the Role:

The Intern position offers a comprehensive opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and impactful environment. This role is designed to provide exposure to various facets of healthcare operations, patient interaction, and administrative support, contributing to the overall mission of delivering quality care and assistance. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals to understand healthcare protocols, data management, and patient confidentiality standards. The major end result of this role is to develop foundational knowledge and practical skills that prepare the intern for a future career in health care or social services. Through this internship, candidates will enhance their understanding of healthcare systems, improve communication skills, and contribute meaningfully to team objectives and patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant degree program such as Health Sciences, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of healthcare terminology and patient care principles.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous volunteer or internship experience in a healthcare or social assistance setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare compliance standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and adaptability in fast-paced settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist healthcare professionals and administrative staff with daily tasks and patient care activities.
  • Support data entry, record keeping, and management of patient information while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Observe and participate in patient interactions to understand care delivery and social assistance processes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, scheduling, and coordination of healthcare services.
  • Engage in training sessions and team meetings to learn about healthcare policies, procedures, and best practices.

The required skills such as communication and confidentiality are essential for interacting effectively with patients and healthcare staff while protecting sensitive information. Proficiency in office software enables the intern to efficiently manage documentation and support administrative tasks.
