About the Role:

The Supervisor leads and oversees daily recycling plant operations, directing staff in the safe and efficient screening, sorting, separating, and baling of recyclable materials. Ensures compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of, and ensure compliance with, all safety, health, environmental, and community policies and procedures related to facility operations and equipment use.
  • Collaborate closely with the dispatch team and assist with logistics coordination to ensure efficient material flow and timely outbound shipments.
  • Monitor sorting, equipment operation, processing, and baling activities to maintain safety, efficiency, and quality.
  • Assign duties to staff based on production schedules and provide hands-on demonstrations of safe and efficient equipment operation.
  • Inspect machinery and equipment regularly to verify compliance with production and quality standards.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate time, attendance, and production reports.
  • Manage and motivate a workforce of approximately 20-25 employees, leading by example and fostering a positive team environment.
  • Multi-task effectively and demonstrate a willingness to learn all aspects of plant operations.
  • Lead process and quality teams in identifying and implementing workflow and quality improvements.
  • Enter production data and related information into company systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support plant operations.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; or equivalent business experience required.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a diverse, fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to follow procedures and work from written instructions.
  • Capability to work in a plant processing environment for extended periods of time.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Flexible and team-oriented, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Physically active and comfortable spending the majority of the day walking.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must speak and understand English; Spanish and/or Vietnamese fluency (spoken and written) is a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Normal work environment is outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions, dirt, high levels of noise, smells/odors and at times exposure to dangerous and/or toxic substances requiring necessary precautions, including PPE.

  • While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and communicate verbally and audibly.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme temperature conditions, including heat and cold.
