Schold Manufacturing, a leader in the design and production of industrial mixers, media milling, and custom process equipment, is looking for a Mechanical Assembler / Service Technician to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanical professional who enjoys building custom machinery in the shop while also supporting on-site service work when needed.
As a Mechanical Assembler / Service Technician, you will be responsible for assembling custom industrial equipment in our Bedford Park facility (near Midway Airport) and supporting field service work at customer sites. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring our machines are built correctly, safely, and ready to perform in demanding customer environments.
Responsibilities
- Assemble custom industrial mixing and milling equipment from drawings and bills of material
- Install mechanical components including shafts, bearings, gearboxes, motors, and guards
- Support on-site service work including equipment installation, troubleshooting, and repairs
- Assist with machine tear-down, rebuilds, and upgrades
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and BOMs
- Work closely with engineering, production, and service teams to resolve issues
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area
- Document service and assembly work as required
Travel Requirements
- On-site service and installation travel up to 20–30% of the time
- Majority of time spent in Schold’s Bedford Park manufacturing facility
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience assembling industrial machinery, millwrighting, or mechanical service
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using hand and power tools
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and bills of material
- Comfortable working on large rotating equipment and heavy assemblies
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed
- Basic electrical or hydraulic knowledge is a plus
- Valid driver’s license
