Responsibilities

Accountable for the development and ongoing management of Kettering Medical Center’s Infection Control Program. The CIC Specialist is responsible for:ongoing employee education regarding infection control; performance of surveillance activities; implementation of prevention and control measures in response to a suspected or known bioterrorism-related outbreak; and specific audits that promote high quality care to all patients and reduces the risk of infection for employees and patients. Available to all departments, the Specialist serves as a resource for infection control questions and issues. The CIC specialist is accountable for his/her own professional development and practice within the scope of care defined by law. Utilizing organizational resources, the CIC specialist acts as a patient advocate for the delivery of safe care, which includes the delegation of care and participation in performance and practice improvement activities. The delivery of nursing care at Kettering Medical Center (KMC) reflects the philosophies, mission, vision and values of the organization and nursing department.

Job Responsibilities:

Education

  • ADN or BSN or BS in applicable health field

Work Experience

  • 5 years’ experience in bedside nursing in an acute care facility
  • Over 2 years of Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations

  • [Ohio, United States] Registered Nurses RN license
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) obtained within 3 years of hire.

Skills

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) obtained within 3 years of hire.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations and critical analysis skills as evidenced by previous experience.
  • Knowledge of current health care practices as they relate to prevention of disease transmission.
  • Knowledge of reportable diseases and documentation to complete for local, state, and government agencies.
  • Ability to accept responsibility, analyze problems, evaluate reports, present data, and make infection control decisions regarding patient rare or employee concerns.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and good judgment in a self-directed role.
  • Ability to use and interpret statistical data.
  • Strong verbal/writing skills necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary.
  • Has completed annual Corporate Integrity training.
  • Maintains competencies and skills of specialty area of practice.


Qualifications
  • Over 2 years of Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred
